Delay in appointment of new Congress president hurting party: Shashi Tharoor

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said, the continuous delay in the appointment of a new party president is hurting the grand old party, adding that an interim president should be appointed immediately to take decisions at the highest level in order to avoid future political disasters like Karnataka and Goa. “To my mind, the delay is hurting us. It gives an impression of drift and in decision. Some very well known names have expressed the same frustration to me. They have chosen not to go public.”

Tharoor said, “1st thing is appoint an interim president or authorise someone to take decisions. So if somebody like Goa opposition leader leaves with most of the party, someone should be there to stop, persuade, and argue; to do something rather than it just happening.” Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post of Congress president last month over the party’s dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections.
