The spin-off has since been met with rave reviews for its fresh and percipient writing as well as wonderful performances. With CBS having renewed the sought-after sitcom for a fourth season, is the network set to introduce a young Penny to the mix?
‘Young Sheldon’: The bazinga boy!
The boy who coined the word “Bazinga” now has a show all about him!
‘The Big Bang Theory’ gave birth to its equally loved prequel, ‘Young Sheldon’ in 2017. Helmed by the undisputed ‘King of Sitcoms’, Chuck Lorre, the series is one of the most-watched sitcoms on American television right now.
The series chronicles the early adventures of the child prodigy, Sheldon Cooper, as he tries to adjust in a world surrounded by his not-so-smart family members and friends who struggle to keep up with him. Iain Armitage as the young Sheldon Cooper steals the show with his adorable personality and praise-worthy performance. The sitcom also has voiceovers by Jim Parsons who played the adult Sheldon Cooper in ‘The Big Bang Theory’.

With 3 seasons down, the series is not even close to being over. Season 4 is soon to come and the excitement surrounding it is through the roof! So, what does the grapevine have to say about what we can see next in the upcoming season?
‘Young Sheldon’ Season 3: Where did it end?
‘The Big Bang Theory’ had already established that Sheldon had gone to college at the age of 11. Season 3 finale of ‘Young Sheldon’ sees that several universities have expressed their desire to have Sheldon as their student. Sheldon’s mother, despite knowing this, decides to conceal this from both her son and husband, enraging her husband when he finds out.

The season ended with the decision that Sheldon would study in the nearby institute of East Texas Tech for his undergraduate studies.
The series was supposed to have a couple of more episodes but was cut short as they had to stop shooting due to the ongoing pandemic.
Is a young Penny set to enter the series?
So, what’s next for this acclaimed situational comedy? The makers had previously decided to end season 3 with Sheldon’s high school graduation but could not do so as the pandemic brought their shoot to a halt. The showrunners are interested in commencing season 4 with the graduation ceremony as they believe that such a monumental moment in Sheldon’s life must be showcased.
There is strong buzz regarding a possible young Penny featuring in the upcoming season and causing Sheldon quite some trouble with her bright and chirpy personality.
For those who missed out, Kaley Cuoco, who played Penny in ‘The Big Bang Theory’ has already made a special appearance in season 3 episode 10, “Teenager Soup and A Little Ball of Fib”, though not in person. The episode has a scene in which Sheldon has a nightmare in which he goes to the pool and it entices him to swim in it in an alluring voice saying, “My pH level is 7.4 and with three parts per million of chlorine, I’m cleaner than your Daddy’s plate after Thanksgiving”. The voice of the pool was given by none other than Cuoco herself, who is not new to the scene of voiceover artistry.
Cuoco’s cameo has hyped fans up who now want to see young Penny make an appearance on the show. The creators are yet to make an official comment on this, but fans can’t help but anticipate the younger versions of two of their favourite characters come face to face. Hopefully, we will get to hear more about what is coming in season 4 soon from its makers.
