This reference from The Big Bang Theory had the fans waiting for Season 3 of Young Sheldon to see if Sheldon will join the college.
However, the creators decided to take a bumpy road by making Sheldon’s decision harder in the form of polarizing opinions between his mother and father.
By the end of Season 3, the scene got further complicated. The fans were left on the mercy of speculations if Iain Armitage’s version of Sheldon will finally graduate in Season 4 or not.

So, when he found out about Mary hiding the joining letters, they both ended up having a dispute. This dispute intensified as the season approached the end.
However, in the end, they all agreed to the idea of Sheldon finishing his studies at East Texas Tech. But as of now, it seems like the agreement will not survive for long, and it might put Sheldon’s family at risk.
Iain Armitage’s Sheldon will Graduate in Young Sheldon Season 4 – says Steven Molaro.
While the fans are speculating, the co-creator of the show, Steven Molaro had confirmed it long ago. Steven Molaro has confirmed that Sheldon will go to college at the age of 11 at any cost. He wants to stay true to The Big Bank Theory.
Explaining his take on Young Sheldon’s graduation further, he told TV Line: “Any time you make a shift in a show, it’s a little daunting. I had been through it so many times on Big Bang Theory, but if you don’t make those changes and you don’t go for it, I think the bigger risk is stagnating.”
Stating ahead, Molaro confirmed that Iain Armitage’s Sheldon will graduate in Young Sheldon Season 4 at all costs. He said, “We know he goes to college, [and] I’m fairly loyal to the Big Bang canon. If it’s going to hurt the show, I’m willing to get a little creative with it, but in this case, I think it was time. We were all ready to do it.”
This clears all the speculations about further improvisation in the story due to the very young age of Sheldon and his mother’s opinion of his decision.

Though it’s confirmed that Young Sheldon (Iain Armitage) will graduate in Season 4, we could have seen him joining the college in Season 3 itself.
Yes, usually Young Sheldon’s every season has been 22 Episodes long. Season 3 was meant to be the same. However, due to the pandemic, the team couldn’t finish the filming of the 22nd Episode. If the Season 3 had the Episode 22, Sheldon would have already joined the college in Season 3 itself.
Now, as Episode 22 was left out from Season 3, we will be seeing it in Young Sheldon Season 4.
