Here’s why 2020 can be a good year- ‘Downton Abbey’ Season 7 confirmation might be on the way!
Two years back the British Aristocrats Family, Crawley family from ‘Downton Abbey’ was announced to never return. Season 6 was the ultimate final season for the historical period drama series. Despite the announcement, viewers still remain hopeful about the return of the period drama on screen. We are hoping it’ll be season 7, but it can also be a ‘Downton Abbey’ movie. Let’s check it out.
Last year, instead of a full-fledged season we got a ‘Downton Abbey’ movie with our favourite Crawley family returning to our screens.

Why the popular show works
It is no surprise that as much as we hate the British, upper-class culture, we love it too. We love to sit through the ‘Downton Abbey’ episodes, watching the ladies in waistcoats going to dinner parties and the men trying to woo them from a distance. The tea parties, supper, and the butler. We love all of the grandeur and the food being cooked in the kitchens, and what better place to experience it than the world of ‘Downton Abbey’.
Set in the early 20th Century, the show is set in the fictional estate of Yorkshire’s Downton Abbey.
It follows the lives of the ‘Downton Abbey’s’ Crawley family and through them we get to live the eras of the Titanic, World War 1 and the Spanish Influenza epidemic between the years 1912 and 1916. The most gripping part of the series is perhaps the class difference, how it’s portrayed and the relationship between the two- Nobel Aristocrat class and the Servant Class.

Throughout the ‘Downton Abbey’ episodes, a parallel between the two classes is shown in the plotlines through the everyday lives of the Crawley family from ‘Downton Abbey’. If there is a high society woman crying about lost love, then you might also see a woman from the servant class doing the same.
In that connection lies humility, an understanding of human relationships, and an acceptance of inclusivity for all. All the seasons of the show and the ‘Downton Abbey’ movie have continued this tradition, and the ‘Downton Abbey’ Season 7 confirmation also creates hope for the continuation of the same exploration of human relationships.
Is there a season 7?
The rumours started after it was announced that an original full feature film would be released in theatres in September 2019. The Downton Abbey movie reprised much of the original characters from the show with the likes of Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess of Grantham, Hugh Bonneville as Lord Grantham, and Jim Carter as the former stern Butler.
Even though the film didn’t fare well, it gave us an idea of the number of plot and sub-plots still left to explore and hope that the makers would feel the same way.
The film by all means was a darker tale of what the TV series was like. A tale of trick, snobbery, lies and violence, a number of sub-plots could be seen stemming from it.

Here’s Why Downton Abbey Has Found It’s New-found Relevance
The note of finality at the ending of the movie perhaps could be viewed as the beginning of another franchise, a spin-off maybe?
What to expect if there is Season 7?
A spin-off seems highly likely but a full-fledged season is another dream altogether. Various sources online have reported that although nothing remains to be confirmed, there have been many discussions as to in what direction the next season plotline could steer.
One of the most likely could be showing the audience the fall of the British nobility with ‘Downton Abbey’s’ Crawley family as an example, and the start of the modern era post World War II. This would prove to be an interesting plotline to pursue, given the love-hate relationship one has with the British upper-class.
But, as of now, there has been no official announcement, although we see ‘Downton Abbey’ returning and we have every reason to believe so given the show’s popularity and it still remains to be one of the most searched shows on Google.
We hope that the creators are able to gift us many more ‘Downton Abbey’ episodes. ‘Downton Abbey’ has not yet been made available on Netflix but various other OTT platforms have it, including PBS’s own streaming platform. Do you think we can expect an announcement soon? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
Why did Matthew Crawley have to die?
In the show, Matthew Crawley was killed in a gruesome car accident. But the real reason he had to be killed was that Dan Stevens, the actor who played that role, did not renew his contract. The creators also did not want to recast him, and ended up killing him instead.
Did Bates kill Mr Green on ‘Downton Abbey’?
Though Mr. Bates was suspected was killing of Mr Green, he was later proved innocent. So, no, he did not kill Mr Green. Bates proved his innocence by producing his train ticket which was un-ripped, meaning that he had been in York when Green died in London.
