‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ to be back on The CW network
Yes, according to the rumour mills, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is the chosen one for celebrating the era of reboots on the CW network. Many old shows are making a comeback on TV. ‘Friends’ reunion has become the talk of the town, ever since the announcement of the reboot.
The CW has decided to be in the game by bringing back season 8 of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ from the world of comics. The American TV series, created by Joss Whedon, premiered on March 10, 1997, and ran for seven seasons till May 20, 2003. The story continued in a comic book series of the same name and concluded with season 12.
The story is about the slayers or “the chosen ones”. “In every generation, there is a chosen one … she alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer”. Buffy Summers knows this tale, no matter how hard she tries, she can’t escape from her destiny.
But she is not alone. With hilarious but quite powerful friends she has made a gang called “Scooby Gang”, Buffy & co., who slay the deadly demons together as a unit.
Was Sarah Michelle Geller the reason behind ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s’ cancellation?
Yes, it was the fan favourite, Emmy winning actress who was tired of working on the show for seven long seasons. She wanted to try her hand in movies and feared to get type-casted, as Hollywood is known to do.
Many fans, despite loving the comics, felt that the show ran its course, and so it ended. Since the show is a teen drama, we can’t expect Sarah to do season 8 after all these years. The CW network might be planning the reboot with another actress.
The network is known for launching new faces on TV like Kristen Bell, Blake Lively, Jessica Biel, Maggie O, Sophia Bush, and others. But things didn’t go so great for Sarah Michelle Geller. She made waves with Buffy and then Daphne in Scooby-Doo live-action franchise, her career took a plunge after her other projects failed one after the other.
Geller attempted to revive her career but hasn’t found any notable roles since Buffy. She might also not get the role in the reboot segment of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Season 8 because she is too old to play the role of a teen. It seems like The CW will find a new face for playing Buffy.
Release date updates on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Season 8
The CW network hasn’t made any official announcement about the reboot of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ for season 8. The makers are already working on the screenplay, according to the rumours.
We will have to wait for some time to hear the confirmed news to know if Buffy will be back on TV with season 8. If the rumour is true, then season 8 of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ will, most likely, air by September 2021, at the earliest.
