Is Fox set to bring ‘Gotham’ back for another season?
Arguably one of the best DC show ever created was Bruno Heller’s 2014 action crime thriller, ‘Gotham‘. Focusing on homicide detective James Gordon and a young Bruce Wayne, the action-adventure series spanned over 5 critically acclaimed seasons.
Highlights:
- ‘Gotham’: The journeys of James Gordon and Bruce Wayne
- How did the show conclude?
- ‘Gotham’ Season 6: Is it really happening?
The series was dark, intense, and packed with some of the most popular villains from the Batman franchise. The series came to an end in 2019 and talks of a revival have been rife ever since. But is Fox finally ready to bring the series back for a season 6?
‘Gotham’: The journeys of James Gordon and Bruce Wayne
Thrilling, perfervid, and engaging, ‘Gotham’ was a show with a sinister undertone. Set in Gotham City, the series followed homicide detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) investigating the murder of a young Bruce Wayne’s (David Mazouz) parents. Over the seasons, James and Bruce joined forces and with the help of Bruce’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee), future Catwoman, Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova), James’ partner, Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), and Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), to fight villains who were hell-bent on establishing their control over the city.

The highlight of the series was its long list of nefarious villains and their portrayal by a line-up of extraordinary actors. The series reveals the origin stories of some of the most popular baddies from the Batman franchise including Penguin, Riddler, Mad Hatter, Hugo Strange, Poison Ivy, Ra’s al Ghul, Nyssa al Ghul, Scarecrow, Bane, and the Joker, among others. The series focused mainly on Gordon’s life as he came face to face with Gotham city’s shadowy underbelly of destructive antagonists.
Time and again, the show has been applauded for its production design, VFX, as well as make-up and costumes. The series has been regarded as one of the best DC series’ out there and is absolutely worth a watch.

How did the show conclude?
[*SPOILER*]
Season 5 concluded with a time leap of 10 years where Gordon was now the Commissioner of Gotham City Police Department and Barbara Kean had left her life of crime and become a successful businesswoman. Penguin and Riddler were, at last, able to escape the asylum and Bruce finally returned to Gotham City as the Dark Knight.
The final season was supposed to have only 10 episodes but was given 12 to make the total tally of episodes 100. The series was praised both by fans and critics who found the ending satisfying.
Soon, after the end of season 5, it was announced that the show was going to be rebooted in 2021 and that it would eventually tie into the upcoming Batman movie.
‘Gotham’ Season 6: Is it really happening?
It is being said that a series on Batman is currently in the works and set to air on HBO. ‘Gotham’ focused on the life of James Gordon but over the seasons made Bruce Wayne a parallel lead with his evolution into the Dark Knight becoming a central storyline. The upcoming series will be set in the same universe as the 2021 movie, ‘The Batman’, helmed by Matt Reeves, starring Robert Pattinson as the titular character.
The series will be created by Terence Winter, of the ‘Boardwalk Empire’ fame. Whether the HBO series will revolve around Gordon or Bruce, we cannot say yet. But considering HBO’s track record with intense and gritty shows and its status of being a cable channel, the new series will be much darker, twisted, suspenseful, and ominous.
The Fox series was complete in itself and, with the finale it gave, there doesn’t seem to be a point in continuing the story and making a season 6. Thus, even though there won’t be a season 6, the upcoming series will serve as a spin-off to ‘Gotham’. So, who is up for some more mysteries from Gotham City?
