Where did season 8 leave us?
Season 8 was a topsy-turvy ride. The mini-series was divided into four episodes, each depicting a season.
We were taken through a joyride of being back to the town of Stars Hollow, where Rory had achieved success through her New York Times article. We see a proud Luke, Rory and Dean communicating, as well as the epic return of Logan and the exciting no-strings-attached affair, followed by the loss of Richard Gilmore.

Rory, on Jess’ advice, starts writing her book, called Gilmore Girls.
The mother-daughter duo had some disagreements, but it all worked out in the end, which finally took us to the much-awaited wedding of Luke and Lorelai tying the knot.

What shocked fans was possibly the final scene of episode 4, which dropped the big bomb on Lorelai — Rory’s pregnancy.
What can be expected of season 9?
Season 9 is supposed to answer two questions —Who and How? Was it the crazy hook-up with the line guy, the affair with Logan, or someone entirely new? Who is the father of Rory’s kid?
Would the past repeat itself where Rory would have to leave her mother’s shadow, just like Lorelai left Emily because of her reaction to the pregnancy slip, or would she find the strength to grow and face everything?
Also, what would become of the book? Would Rory achieve her dreams or will the pregnancy change her priorities? Who would she end up with eventually, is also a question that is bugging fans.
There are a million questions that we need answers to. Here is hoping that the last season holds the keys to all the unopened locks.
When can we expect season 9?
This is tricky because — Covid-19. Given the situation, all plans and shoots for Gilmore Girls has been put to a halt. There is also the issue of the cast’s schedule, which will be difficult to coordinate because of the delay.
For example, Alexis Bledel is likely to be occupied with The Handmaid’s Tale, Milo Ventimiglia will be busy with This Is Us and Melissa McCarthy is has her own projects too.
All the more, the last season will not premiere before 2021. There is also the question of the format — will it be a mini-series again, or the regular 22-episode run?
We would like to think that the final season would follow the Gilmore Girls pattern and release in the fall or winter (October or November). So, you could have season 9 by October 2021.
Who do you think is the father of Rory’s child? Is Lorelai going to support Rory? Let us know in the comments section.
