Petition to replace Henry Cavill as the Witcher
Not that anyone should have a problem with Henry Cavill playing Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher, because, well –
a) He is perfect, and
b) He is PERFECT!
However, a few fans seem to not have enjoyed watching Cavill in the role of the Witcher slaying monsters. Unhappy with the casting of Cavill in the lead role, people even jumped the gun and started an online petition on “Change.org” to replace him. Stefan Sirucek who started this petition, although funny, suggested that Henry Cavill should be replaced by Larry David as the Witcher.
He urged Netflix to replace Cavill with Larry David on two grounds. First, Larry David is the non-fearing invincible badass who takes no prisoners. Stefan Sirucek wrote, “One of these actors is an uncompromising badass who fears nothing, takes no prisoners, and cannot be defeated, and the other actor is Henry Cavill”. Second, Larry David is already blessed with silver hair, which will save the production “MUCHO CLAMS on hair dye and wigs”.

New Witcher for a new season?
Whether Henry Cavill would return as the Witcher in the new season is a matter for a little later, but first, the newbie. Reports suggest that there will be two Witchers appearing in season 2 of the Netflix original. The ‘Killing Eve’ actor, Kim Bodnia, will play one of them. The viewers will get to see Bodnia in the role of the continent’s “oldest and most experienced Witcher”, Vesemir. Vesemir has been a part of the videogame series, which was inspired by the original books.
The story traces Vesemir as Geralt’s mentor and father figure at Kaer Morhen, the training base of the Witchers. Both Vesemir and Geralt belonged to the same order of Witchers, also known as the “School of Wolf”. Following the attack on Kaer Morhen by the anti-witchers squad, Vesemir was one of the very few who had survived.
Welcoming Kim Bodnia on board the team of ‘The Witchers’, showrunner Lauren Hissrich had announced the exciting news via her Twitter handle. Kim Bodnia’s addition to the show as Vesemir came across as quite a surprise since rumour had it that the role was meant to go to veteran ‘Star Wars’ actor Mark Hamil.
However, Hamill took the liberty of putting all rumours to rest and clarified that he wasn’t even approached for the role. He wrote,
“I still have no idea what this is or what it’s about, but I DO know they haven’t ever asked me to play Vesemir … yet”.
Back in May, “Redanian Intelligence” reported that yet another Witcher besides Geralt of Rivia and Vesemir has been added as a character. Stunt artist and actor Joel Adrian has been added to the cast to play Hemrik, a Witcher from Kaer Morhen. However, Hemrik as a character is an original one since the books don’t mention him. It is uncertain as to what role he could play in the plot, but given the show’s non-linear timeline, he could be part of flashbacks from the training years of Geralt.
Is Henry Cavill being replaced?
Coming back to our main concern – is Henry Cavill being replaced on ‘The Witcher’? The answer is no. Henry Cavill is still very much alive in his armour as Geralt of Rivia and will return for some more intense monster-slaying in season 2. In fact, Netflix has even released the first look of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia for season 2 of ‘The Witcher’. The announcement presented Geralt looking stunning as always, and the caption read, “New armour, same witcher”.
It is, therefore, confirmed that Henry Cavill is returning in all his glory as Geralt of Rivia, and with him are returning most of the old cast along with some new but exciting additions. Season 2 of ‘The Witcher’ is currently in production after facing a delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Are you excited about season 2 of ‘The Witcher’? Let us know in the comments below!
