The Witcher : The interwoven stories of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer
Set in a fictional place called ‘the Continent’, the show follows the legend of Geralt of Rivia/Witcher (Henry Cavill) and Cirilla, the crown princess of Cintra (Freya Allan) who are said to be each other’s destiny. Geralt is a mutant with special powers who hunts monsters for a living. Season 1 shows him trying to navigate through life in a realm of corruption, violence, and poverty crossing paths with a quarter-elf sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) while finding his way to Cirilla. The series beautifully captures the entangled lives of the three characters in a world of magic and mystical creatures.

With breath-taking visuals and its fantasy theme, The Witcher attracted the attention of audiences worldwide. On December 31, 2019, it was reported by Parrot Analytics that The Witcher had become the most-in-demand TV series in the world, across all platforms.
The Witcher is one of Netflix’s biggest ventures yet and is set to return with a season 2 in 2021.
Season 2 : The first look finally revealed
Netflix promises an even more electrifying season 2 with its official synopsis reading, “Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
Henry Cavill’s new appearance for the upcoming season was revealed recently. Cavill himself posted a picture of Geralt of Rivia’s new armour on his official Instagram handle.
Showrunner Hissrich’s statement regarding the second season in which she said, “The reaction to season one of The Witcher set a high bar for adding new talent for the second season. Sophie Holland and her casting team have once again found the very best people to embody these characters, and in the hands of these accomplished directors, we’re excited to see these new stories come to life,” has raised the excitement of fans tenfold.
Despite being delayed due to the corona virus pandemic, the show’s production resumed on August 17th, 2020 and the release date of the new season will be disclosed soon.
So, what is coming up next?
As we gear up for the upcoming season of The Witcher, Netflix announced the news of 2 possible spin-offs of the 2019 series. First is an animated movie titled ‘The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf’ which will tell the story of Geralt’s origin and his mentor Vesemir. It is being helmed by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Beau DeMayo. The streaming platform is also in the middle of developing a live-action prequel limited series called ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ which will be set in an era 1200 years prior to Geralt’s time focus on the origin of Witchers. It will be created by Declan de Barra while Hissrich will be serving as the executive producer.
Needless to say, The Witcher fans are in for a great year ahead with all these projects lined up for release in 2021 and 2022.
