Monica Rambeau’s weird reaction to Captain Marvel’s mention in ‘WandaVision’
Initially cast as “Geraldine” inside Wanda’s sit-com reality, Monica Rameau is a S.W.O.R.D. agent. As later shown in the show, she was wiped-off by Thanos’ snap, returned after 5 years, was handed over the missing Westview town case, and got sucked into Wanda’s Hex-Anomaly while investigating.
There’s something wrong between Monica Rambeau and Captain Marvel – ‘WandaVision’ hints at some blunder.

Monica gets along with Wanda in her reality until Wanda sends her flying through walls and houses and out of the barrier.
After she returns to the team, Darcy and agent Jimmy Woo asks some casual and curious “Captain Marvel” related questions in episode 5. To which she responds in a rather irritated and vague manner.
She responds: “We are not talking about her [Captain Marvel], we are talking about Wanda.” To which Darcy seems surprised and confused.
In ‘WandaVision’ episode 6, again, Monica Rambeau is confronted with some Captain Marvel history, and she again finds herself in an uncomfortable situation.
This time, it was Director Hayward. He blames Monica for having a soft side for Wanda. He reminds her of Captain Marvel by saying, “Yes, I know your history with Carol Danvers”.
While Captain Marvel’s reference in MCU is not a big deal, and especially in front of Monica it is absolutely reasonable, but what is weird is her reaction to it.
Monica Rambeau and Carol Danver’s history
Die-hard Marvel fans must remember the girl who helped Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) in choosing her signature red, blue, and yellow costume colours. Yes, she was Monica Rambeau, then portrayed by Akira Akbar as a child in ‘Captain Marvel’, and now portrayed by Teyonah Parris as a S.W.O.R.D. agent in ‘WandaVision’.
Maria (Monica’s mother) and Carol Danvers were colleagues and fellow pilots in U.S. Air Force during the mid-1980s. They were almost sisters, and Monica grew up in awe of her aunt Carol until one day Carol disappeared in a plane crash during a test flight.
The entire world believed Carol was dead. But the 5-year old Monica kept the faith. Her faith was rewarded by Carol’s return as a Kree Warrior Vers almost after six years. Carol returned to her sister and nephew with the powers of Sower Stone and memories tracing back to only 5-6 years.
After reuniting with Maria, Monica (now 11-years-old), and Nick Fury, Carol re-learned her past and realized her true identity, and Monica was now in further admiration of her superhero aunt. At the end of ‘Captain Marvel’, Monica bids goodbye to her Aunt Marvel who flies out in the galaxy with a promise to visit them soon.
What’s wrong between Monica and Captain Marvel?
We learn in ‘Avenger: Infinity War’ post-credit scene on Captain Marvel’s arrival that she hasn’t visited earth since her last departure. Assuming she never contacted Monica and Maria for over 25 years of their life. During which Maria founded S.W.O.R.D; Monica grew up to be an agent, and was almost on her death bed, fighting cancer.
Burning Question – Fans ask why Monica Rambeau reacted with a grudge over Captain Marvel’s mention in ‘WandaVision’.
Considering her mother’s condition, and so much happening around, it’s obvious that Monica expected her aunt to check on them, for once at least. Captain Marvel failing to do so for her family might explain the strange reaction of Monica Rambeau in ‘WandaVision’.
However, only someone alien to MCU would be sure that things might be so simple. We can’t be sure if Captain Marvel didn’t visit earth during all these years at all. If she visited earth, did she visit Monica or that’s what the grudge is all about? There might be more to their relationship than what meets the eye.
Let’s be patient and keep a close watch on how the future episodes of ‘WandaVision’ unfold, and if they give us more clarity on Monica Rambeau and her Captain Marvel mystery.
