Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will be seen together once again in the ‘Breaking Bad’ spin-off series ‘Better Call Saul’. But they won’t be playing Walter and Jesse.
Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould’s thrilling storytelling over five seasons in ‘Breaking Bad’ has been an otherworldly experience for fans. The series concluded Walter’s (Cranston) story in 2015, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wanting to see the meth-making duo again.
Highlights —
- ‘Breaking Bad’ didn’t get a season 6, but its spin-off series did
- Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul to reprise roles as Walter and Jesse?
- ‘Better Call Saul’ Season 6 releasing this year?
The ‘Breaking Bad’ spin-off titled ‘Better Call Saul’ debuted in 2015 and acts as a prequel to the series. It follows Jimmy McGill’s (Bob Odenkirk) journey from an ex-con artist to the respectable criminal lawyer known as Saul Goodman.
Ever since fans discovered that the storyline would eventually meet ‘Breaking Bad’ towards its end, they’ve been hoping to see the duo reprise their roles once again. And it seems like the duo is ready to make an appearance again as well! But not in the way you might have imagined.
‘Breaking Bad’ didn’t get a season 6, but its spin-off series did
Even 7 years after its end, ‘Breaking Bad’ has been praised for its thrilling storytelling, cinematography, and complex characters. ‘Breaking Bad’ follows Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a kind teacher and a loving family man who lives with his wife and disabled son. He’s working hard to make ends meet and his life changes drastically when he’s diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.
He is dedicated to ensuring that his family lives a life of comfort after his inevitable death. Walter’s profound knowledge and love for chemistry inspired him to partner with his former student Jesse Pinkman and they set up a meth lab.

His natural affinity towards chemistry soon earns him instant recognition for his blue meth. His transition from a chemistry teacher into a dreaded meth kingpin known as Heisenberg is applause-worthy and just unbelievable!
The show ended in 2015, leaving a void in the hearts of the ‘Breaking Bad’ loyalists. ‘El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie’ released last year and followed Jesse’s life in the aftermath of the series’ finale. But it wasn’t enough to keep fans going especially when they hoped to see Walter and Jesse team up again.
The ‘Breaking Bad’ spin-off prequel series titled ‘Better Call Saul’ is set six years before the original series. With occasional scenes depicting post ‘Breaking Bad’ events, it mostly follows Jimmy McGill’s life. It explores his journey from an ex-con artist to the respectable criminal lawyer known as Saul Goodman.
Other faces from ‘Breaking Bad’ make an appearance too! The cast includes Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) and Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) and has aired five well-received seasons. Earlier this year, AMC announced a sixth season for the series which got fans thinking about Walter and Jesse again.

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul to reprise roles as Walter and Jesse?
Last year, Bryan and Paul both reprised their roles as Walter and Jesse in ‘El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie’. Paul took on the role of the protagonist this time, and the movie unravelled the events that occurred in the aftermath of the ‘Breaking Bad’ series finale.
The film brought Jesse’s story to a more definitive conclusion but failed to captivate viewers the way ‘Breaking Bad’ did. And it seems as if Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul haven’t had enough of the series too!
During a live stream on his personal Instagram, Paul discussed all possible future adventures within the series’ universe. He was also joined by his ‘Breaking Bad’ partner Cranston! The duo confessed that they’d love to make a cameo in the prequel series before it ended with season 6.
“We always get asked about ‘Better Call Saul’ and whether Jesse or Walt are gonna show up on that show. I don’t know how many times we’ve gotta tell Vince that we’re ready to do it”, Cranston said. “I just don’t think he loves us anymore.”
If only they knew how much fans would love to see them reprise their roles as Walter and Jesse again! ‘Better Call Saul’ is supposed to meet ‘Breaking Bad’ towards its end, so you never know what could be coming!
‘Better Call Saul’ Season 6 releasing this year?
It’d be safe to assume that we have some clue about the new season of the ‘Breaking Bad’ spin-off. Jimmy aka Saul is obviously safe while the other characters are getting ready to face a lot of difficulties.
The script for ‘Better Call Saul’ Season 6 is in development, but the filming is postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic. Co-creator Peter Gould told “Deadline” that season 6 is “going to be big, and it’s going to be resolved”.
Whether the ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ reunion can happen or not, is something we should leave for the creators to explain. They’ll have to weave a reunion that doesn’t take the focus away from Saul and overshadows his impeccable journey.
Walter and Jesse’s endings too shouldn’t find new beginnings. And most importantly, a reunion should add value to the ‘Breaking Bad’ universe and not take away from it.
We can’t wait to see the epic conclusion and whether it will feature a cameo from our favourite characters! Are you looking forward to the ‘Breaking Bad’ spin-off just as we are?
