MSCHF launched a pretty unique idea for a pair of shoes. With Holy Water filled in them, the ‘Jesus Shoes’ are hands down the holiest shoes. And they sold out within minutes of their release! But wait till you hear all about them.

The (pretty) limited edition ‘Jesus Shoes’ a, in fact, a redesigned version of Nike Air Max 97s. With this out of the world idea, can you imagine the amount one has to pay to own a pair? They are tagged at $3,000! And if you are opening a new tab to calculate what they will cost in INR, we will cut short your work. So, they will cost you Rs 2,13,142.50 to be precise (as per the current rate).
A high priced collaboration with Jesus Christ
But sadly, even if you were thinking of buying Nike’s Jesus Shoes, they are now sold out. In fact, according to Fox News, the trainers sold out within minutes. Wait, do not be too shocked. There were less than 24 pairs that were produced!
You could walk on water (or slay vampires) with ‘Jesus Shoes’ but they made only 24 pairs
Holy Sole
These really-limited edition shoes were launched by MSCHF. The shoes are made with 100% frankincense wool. A crucifix added to the laces adds to the theme. Moreover, holy water is filled in the soles is the spotlight of the model. But did you know this: Reportedly, the liquid in the bubble soles is straight from the Jordan River and is also blessed by a priest.
Meet the shoe with a holy soul

Did you spot the Holy Water in Nike’s Jesus Shoes? Did you notice that the water is bluer than it should be? Well, the shoe’s creator explained this. To enhance the visibility of the Holy Water in the sole of the shoe, colouring was added. In fact, it has been reported that this design is in no way affiliated with Nike.
Holier Than Thou
This is not all. Apart from the crucifix, the Holy Water, and the name “Jesus Shoes” this iconic pair also has references to the Bible! A side view of the trainer reveals the words ‘MT.14:25’. This is a reference to the exact passage in the Bible that describes Jesus walking on water.
Could the makers have put any more holy references?
Yes! They added all the holiness that they could in the little space they had to work within.
The back of the ‘Jesus Shoes’ sees ‘MSCHF anf ‘INRI’ written on them. While the former is the name of the company, the latter stems from the Latin phrase ‘Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum’. This, in English, means ‘Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews’.
Thinking Out of the Box
Even the shoebox was in line with the theme. Giving out religious vibes, it had an illustration of an angel with the words “Walk on Water” written across it.
Opening the first layer of covering one can read the words “And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.”
Shoes to Rule them All
The brand produced less than two dozens of the ‘Jesus Shoes’. But Gabriel Whaley (founder of the brand MSCHF) hinted there may be a ‘second coming’ in the future.
The New York Post reported that the brand, MSCHF, sent approximately six of the pairs to YouTubers prior to their release on Tuesday 11 am.
Aren’t you feeling holy after so many references? Let’s hope you get to rope in the next set of release (whenever that might be).
