The Indian skipper has a history of getting into heated arguments. By losing his cool in the recent post-match press conference in New Zealand, Virat Kohli has added another unwanted instalment to his flare-ups.
What makes Virat Kohli lose his cool? – A question the answer to which has been long due.
Virat Kohli is well known for his aggressive nature on the field. He believes that his aggression is very natural and subjective to himself. However, there have been moments where the Indian captain has often got a bit too carried away. A similar incident occurred after the Wellington Test between India and New Zealand.
Highlights! Virat Kohli’s long history of getting into heated arguments.
- The Indian skipper gave a fiery send-off to Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson.
- Kane Williamson called Virat’s aggression as his passion for the game.
- Virat Kohli has often lost his cool in press conferences when Team India has failed.
Following India’s 7-wicket thumping at the hands of the Kiwis, the Indian captain had a fiery exchange with a journalist during the post-match press conference. During the third day of the second Test, Virat Kohli looked quite aggressive. Celebrating aggressively and Virat Kohli allegedly sledged Kane Williamson after the latter got dismissed.
During the post-match press conference, a journalist asked Virat Kohli about the same incident. But the question didn’t go down well with the star cricketer.
Excerpt from the press conference
Journalist: Virat, what’s your reaction to your behaviour on the field – swearing at Williamson when he got out, swearing at the crowd. As an Indian captain, don’t you think you should set a better example on the field?
Virat Kohli: What do you think?
Journalist: I asked you the question?
Virat Kohli: I am asking you the answer.
Journalist: You need to set better examples.
Virat Kohli: You need to find out exactly what happened and come up with better questions. You can’t come here with half questions or half details of what happened. And also, if you want to create controversy, this is not the right place. I had spoken to the match referee (Ranjan Madugalle). He had no issues with what happened. Thank You.
Kohli’s history of losing his cool
The Indian skipper looked quite uneasy and surely lost his cool at the question of the journalist. However, this wasn’t the first such instance. Virat losing temper in post-match conferences is not something new, more so when India hasn’t done well.
After India’s Test series loss against England in September 2018, Virat Kohli lashed out a journalist.
Responding to the journalist, Virat believed that the Indian team was the best in the country’s history in the past 15 years. When the journalist rebutted, Kohli angrily said, “You’re not sure? That is your opinion. Thank you.”
When team India loses matches, the skipper often loses his cool. This hasn’t gone well with his fans and followers lately. As a captain, Kohli must tone down his aggression and accept failures which are just a part of the game.
