The previous 2 seasons of ‘Young Sheldon’ had 22 episodes each, but season 3 had to make do with just 21, although the finale was planned and ready to be aired. Following the cancellation of the final episode of ‘Young Sheldon’, viewers are worried that the show too has been cancelled by CBS.
‘Young Sheldon’ – Back to the future
CBS’s show, ‘Young Sheldon’, was created as a spin-off prequel to the classic favourite, ‘The Big Bang Theory’, a comedy that followed a bunch of nerds in their daily lives.
‘Young Sheldon’ is based on Sheldon Cooper, the most popular and entertaining character from ‘The Big Bang Theory’. Sheldon is a brilliant physicist who likes things done in a particular way and in doing so gets on the nerves of his nerd friends.
‘Young Sheldon’ follows the life of Sheldon Cooper when he was younger and was growing up to be a prodigy with a brilliant mind. The show follows Sheldon as he questions everything around him while growing up. We see him flourishing through his academic life, surprising everyone with that little but brilliant brain.
The idea for a spin-off on the younger version of Sheldon Cooper had come from Jim Parsons as he took on the duties of the executive producer for ‘Young Sheldon’. Fans would certainly love to see more of ‘Young Sheldon’. But the question right now is if the pandemic has forced CBS to take a tough decision and if ‘Young Sheldon’ has really been cancelled indeed!

‘Young Sheldon’ Season 3 finale cancelled
‘Young Sheldon’ first premiered on CBS in 2017 and the show’s third season came to an end, after completing 21 episodes, on April 30, 2020, although initially it was planned to have 22 episodes like the previous seasons.
The coronavirus lockdown caused the Warner Bros to shut all productions after issuing a statement. The statement, as recorded by Express, goes thus: “With the rapidly changing events related to COVID-19, and out of an abundance of caution, Warner Bros.
Television Group is halting production on some of our 70+ series and pilots currently filming or about to begin. The health and safety of our employees, casts, and crew remains our top priority”.
Season 3 of ‘Young Sheldon’ found Sheldon heading towards his college life as multiple colleges and universities approached him. The 21st episode of the season, fortunately, came across as a well established ending for an alternative finale.
However, fans have still been wondering about the content of episode 22. Steven Molaro, the series’ co-creator, said in an interview to TVLine, “We got lucky there. We had a lovely ending planned for 22, but it just worked out that the ending of 21 also is a pretty good finale. That was very fortunate”.
He also gave an affirmative reply when he was asked if episode 22 showed Sheldon’s high school graduation, “Yes. I think it’s an important moment. I certainly would still like to get a chance to see it … it’s a big moment for the show and in his life, and the script is written, so let’s do it!”
