‘True Blood’ was a mass hit on HBO. It scared the hell out of its viewers and made them go weak in their knees.

‘True Blood’ was a true entertainment package!
‘True Blood’ follows the story of waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) who, like in any typical vampire show, gets herself swept up into the world of the supernatural after falling in love with a vampire. But here’s a twist, Sookie also has telepathic powers!
Initially, the series wasn’t viewed as a success for the network. But thanks to the fan-mania generated by the ‘Twilight’ film series, the viewership grew by leaps and bounds. In no time, it became one of HBO’s most-watched programs after ‘The Sopranos’.
What confused the fans was why, despite steady ratings till the end, the vampire drama was eventually cancelled?

HBO’s programming director Michael Lombardo did have a reason behind the disappointing decision. He shared it in an interview with THR:
“And I think in the case of ‘True Blood’, it just felt like we had reached a place where the storytelling was hitting a wall. And to stay just because the ratings were strong felt not who we are and we needed, quite honestly, the money and Sunday night space for new shows”.
The Hollywood biggies who almost made it to the series
‘True Blood’ creator Alan Ball had once revealed that Hollywood biggies like Jennifer Lawrence, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Jessica Chastain almost made it to ‘True Blood’.
Alan dropped some interesting casting secrets at Vulture Festival saying, “Benedict Cumberbatch came and read for Bill” – the character which was played by Stephen Moyer in the series.

Jessica Chastain auditioned for the role of Sookie Stackhouse which was played by Anna Paquin. And last but certainly not the least, Jennifer Lawrence was once considered for playing Jason’s (Ryan Kwanten) love, but owing to a wide age-gap, they didn’t choose her.
Alan was quoted as saying, “She was great, but all the women in the room, because she was going to be Jason’s girlfriend, and she was 17 at the time, were like, ‘No that’s gross'”.
It is hard to imagine how ‘True Blood’ would have been with these stars.
The truth behind reboot rumours
Rumours have it that ‘True Blood’ will get a reboot in a swarm of reboots because of the constant campaigning by the fans. These rumours claiming the information from inside sources say that ‘True Blood’ will start flowing with season 8 very soon.
However, there has been no official confirmation or talks about it, so you should not get your hopes high. Additionally, most of the actors from the series are busy with other important projects so that their return to ‘True Blood’ is highly unlikely.
Both Paquin and Moyer won laurels for their performances and the show even won an Outstanding Casting for a Drama at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards. Fans will be fans and will continue to push harder for a reboot. And believe us, we’d be overjoyed with a reboot too! But until there is any confirmation, we can just keep hoping for the best.
