Avid fans of the show are left with a million questions about the fate of Tony. What happened to him? Did the guy in the ‘Members Only’ jacket hit him? However, it is the show’s creator David Chase’s elusiveness over Tony’s fate that left everyone frustrated and furthered speculation of a seventh season.
HBO President drops a hint on the new season
The Sopranos creator David Chase is revisiting the crime world with a prequel film The Many Saints of Newark, starring late James Gandolfini’s son Michael Gandolfini as the new Tony Soprano. Although the movie was scheduled to release on September 25, 2020, considering the current global situation, it might be postponed to 2021.
When asked if the network will be expanding the film into a series, HBO president Casey Bloys said to Deadline, “I keep saying ‘never say never.’ There are not many discussions about it at the moment, but I will stay open for new possibilities.”

What made ‘The Sopranos’ a legendary show?
Although Game of Thrones has set a record of sorts for HBO’s viewership, it is The Sopranos that had paved the way for the network’s world dominance. Every drama that HBO premiered after this made its mark: heroes instantly were revealed as anti-heroes, plots became darker, and stakes were higher. With deeply flawed protagonists and twisted storylines, The Sopranos was a true example of artistry.
The model The Sopranos followed has become the de facto standard for high-quality television, for example, Danish political drama Borgen, Australian women’s prison drama Wentworth, and British dystopian anthology series Black Mirror. Unlike other crime dramas like The Godfather and Goodfellas, The Sopranos is not just about mob crime. Its story revolves around the family. James Gandolfini in an interview with Bob Simon said, “The Sopranos became so successful because it deals with children, parents, and family. It also emphasizes on loyalty.” Whether Tony is dead or still alive, the debate will be there, but one thing is clear. For decades to come, The Sopranos’ legacy on television will continue.
Where can I stream The Sopranos?
