Why Randall is opposed to seek help?
From the beginning of the series Randall has silently taken so much on him. Facts that he is adopted, a black in the white family, has shaped his personality differently from the rest of the big three. He considers himself fortunate as well as secluded. His parents wanted him to be easy as the other two (Kevin and Kate) were tough nuts to crack.
He obliged and engulfed his pain and anxiety because the family wanted him to be strong. He has always stood by his family like a rock. He can’t accept the fact that sometimes a rocklike man also needs help. He helps people, he doesn’t need help unlike Kevin who openly claims to be unworthy and week.
Ironically this seemingly strong man falls weak when it comes to resolving his own internal crisis. He does not want to fall weak and bare himself to the world. He has hard coded his mind that he is not born to trouble come what may. It will be interesting to see, in the upcoming episodes of This Is Us Season 4, how much this man can take on himself.
