NBC’s widely acclaimed drama This Is Us season 4 is revived after the winter hiatus post mid-season finale
Jack Pearson’s, as always leave us reaching for tissues when we watch our beloved characters going through a hell of a week. The award winning drama has never failed to touch our heart.
No other show in recent times covers the nuances of relationships the way Pearson clan does. The Big three have actually managed to carve a unique space among their wide fan base. With 10 Emmy nominations in these years and Golden Globe for Sterling K Brown (Randall Pearson), the show rules the chart in drama genre.
The story so far
This is us revolves around Jack and Rebecca Pearson children. Rebecca was pregnant with triplets but the third child is stillborn. The couple decides to adopt a black baby (Randall) who is born on the same day as the other two (Kate and Kevin). Every season viewers get to experience new drama in the lives of Big three (Kevin, Kate and Randall).
Season 4 premiered on 24th September, 2019 for the full season of 18 episodes. Mid-season finale ended on Thanksgiving. January episodes have started addressing Rebecca’s mental issue. In the last episode mother of the trio is diagnosed with Mild cognitive disorder. Randall faced physical danger when an intruder trespasses his territory in the previous episode, Lights and shadows. He has averted the physical danger but his unaddressed anxiety will continue to trouble him. This time more profoundly.
A hell of a week trilogy format
The show is back after the fall break. Makers of the show reattempted the trilogy format that was already successful in season 2. Each episode is centered on one of Big Three. Tuesday night episode aired on 21st January on NBC was first in the trilogy episode. First to take the plunge in hell was Randall Pearson and it was surely a hell of a week for him.
Takeaways from part 1: Randall’s long suppressed anxiety issues crops up again
Previous episodes have been a roller coaster ride for Randall. His mother, Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore) has Mild Cognitive disorder. Post coming to terms with this painful fact, he faces another crisis when an intruder trespasses in last episode titled Light and shadows.
But bigger bomb was dropped when a hell of a week was aired and we saw our beloved nerd Randall Pearson facing extreme anxiety issues. Terrible nightmares render him voiceless and it is awful to see him in this state. He has kept all his pains on the backburner whenever his family demands him to be strong. Flashbacks confirm that the mental health crisis is not new. Toddler Randall finds it difficult to sleep alone.
Jack stands by him and it seems like Rebecca knows about the sleeping issues of her son. Her says to jack that one of the kid will need her.The nightmare and anxiety follow him to his college where is he seen to be supported by Beth, now his wife. Every time Randall tries suppressing his problem, it crops up in even bigger shape. But his aversion to seek help has left us pondering.

In the upcoming episodes we will get to see Kevin and Kate, take the plunge into hell. The next episode in the trilogy will be released on Tuesday 11th February, 2020. Fans will have to wait for some time to experience how the drama unfolds in the lives of Kevin and Kate Pearson.
UPCOMING TRACK FOR THIS IS US SEASON 4 DOING THE ROUNDS
Who is the women on Kevin’s bed?
Part 2 will be centered on Kevin according to spoilers dropped by writers of the show Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. The episode will delve into the relationship of Kevin and Sophie. The episode might feature high school romance of these two and what pulled them apart. The episode will take us to Pittsburg and explore the dynamics of the duo. It will be interesting to catch on what made Kevin attend Sophie’s mother funeral.
Sophie track has been a talking point among the fans and writers will explore the layers in the duo. Previous episodes give us a peek onto Kevin’s bed and presence of a mysterious woman alongside him. Current storyline pinpoints it to Sophie. It is to be seen how these separated couple ends up together.
KATE AND MARC UP FOR A BITTER END
Marc is not the right guy and in the upcoming episodes it will be clearer. And once again Pearson family will be together in this to get Kate out of this mess. It would be interesting to watch how Kate centric episode deals with her weight issues and her longing to be a singer like her mother. Part 3 of A hell of a week will put Kate in the spotlight.
Randall and Kevin up for a bitter split
Flash forwards have dropped major hints on Randall and Kevin splitting by the Pearson’s kid’s birthday. So the current track of brotherly care is short lived and the major rift is in the offing. Everything seems lovey-dovey for the brothers but a bitter clash will tear these two apart. For now the split looks unimaginable because Randall shared his nightmares with Kevin.
Why Randall is opposed to seek help?
From the beginning of the series Randall has silently taken so much on him. Facts that he is adopted, a black in the white family, has shaped his personality differently from the rest of the big three. He considers himself fortunate as well as secluded. His parents wanted him to be easy as the other two (Kevin and Kate) were tough nuts to crack.
He obliged and engulfed his pain and anxiety because the family wanted him to be strong. He has always stood by his family like a rock. He can’t accept the fact that sometimes a rocklike man also needs help. He helps people, he doesn’t need help unlike Kevin who openly claims to be unworthy and week.
Ironically this seemingly strong man falls weak when it comes to resolving his own internal crisis. He does not want to fall weak and bare himself to the world. He has hard coded his mind that he is not born to trouble come what may. It will be interesting to see, in the upcoming episodes of This Is Us Season 4, how much this man can take on himself.
