Set in the early 20th century, Downton Abbey is a British Historical series created by Julian Fellowes. Starring Hugh Bonneville, Jessica Brown Findlay, Laura Carmichael, and Jim Carter among many others as lead, the series depicts the lives of the Crawley family and their domestic servants. The writers magically created a series that depicted main historical events like that of the sinking of Titanic, an outbreak of the first world war, the Spanish influenza pandemic, the Irish War of Independence, Teapot Dome Scandal, Beer Hall Putsch, and eventually ending the series with the end of the British aristocracy.

The series has won a number of awards since its debut in 2010 such as The Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or Television film and a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding miniseries or movie. It also received the Guinness world records for being the most critically acclaimed English TV series of 2011.

After season 6 of the series, a movie by the same name was released. Did fans like this film? YES! Fans loved how the film was put together with all the important details about the series. “I’m watching the Downton Abbey movie. It’s exactly like a super long episode of Downton Abbey with a bigger budget and it hits the spot. They should make one every four years until my death.” tweeted @SaraKateW, a Downton Abbey fan.
While there is no official update on the latest season, there sure is another big update all fans would be excited about. The speculations about a Downton Abbey sequel has finally turned out to be true.
In an interview with ET, producer Gareth Neame confirmed that he, Julian Fellowes, and the movie’s production company Focus Features are “totally committed to making a sequel.”
“During the course of this year, we will have a script and we will try to assemble all the actors again, you know, as soon as we can.” He added.
While he does also say that the sequel won’t be out this year, it most definitely will release next year. But considering the pandemic has stalled all productions it is difficult to know if the sequel will be out as per schedule. Perhaps if the idea of a movie doesn’t work out, we all might get a seventh season after all.
