It was comedy at its best and was so popular that it received movie reboots, special episodes, an animated series, and now even a live-action show. It also found success with critics who praised the show for its writing and hilariously weird performances. Netflix cancelled the series in 2018 after 12 seasons. But is it now considering bringing the show for season 13?
The audacious and outrageous residents of Sunnyvale Trailer Park
‘Trailer Park Boys’ is an unusual story of a few residents of the trailer park, including some former convicts – Ricky and Bubbles, who live in a fictional place called Sunnyvale Trailer Park, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Joined by Julian, the show revolves around the goof-ups and misfortune of the three characters. Developed by Mike Clattenburg, the series starred John Paul Tremblay, Robb Wells, Mike Smith, John Dunsworth, Patrick Roach, Lucy DeCoutere, Sarah E. Dunsworth, Cory Bowles, Michael Jackson, Barrie Dunn, and Jacob Rolfe in pivotal roles.
The Canadian series found popularity even in U.K. and U.S.A. and was one of the most successful shows from the country. The series was initially produced by Showtime for its first 7 seasons and was subsequently picked up by Netflix for the remaining 5 seasons.
The mockumentary was lauded for its fresh take on life and whirlwind characters. Its raunchy dark humour made sure that you were entertained throughout.
The spawns – Specials, movies, and animated series
The series was so popular that it gave birth to several movies and spinoffs. It was a huge hit and was in constant production between 2001 and 2018. Between 2001 and 2007, 5 seasons of the show were produced by Showtime whereas Netflix produced the remaining 5 seasons between 2014 and 2018.
The series spawned off multiple movies including ‘Trailer Park Boys: The Movie’ (2006), ‘Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day’ (2009), and ‘Trailer Park Boys: Don’t Legalize It’ (2012). The series was also a source of a few specials – ‘Trailer Park Boys: Xmas Special’ (2004), ‘Live in Fuckin’ Dublin’ (2013), ‘Live at the North Pole’ (2014), and ‘Drunk, High, and Unemployed’ (Live in Austin, 2015).
Netflix also produced 2 spin-off series called ‘Trailer Park Boys Out of the Park: Europe’ (2016) and ‘Trailer Park Boys: Out of the Park: USA’ (2017).
After the conclusion of the 12th season of the series, Netflix released an animated series called ‘Trailer Park Boys: The Animated Series’ in 2019, which was subsequently renewed for season 2, released in May 2020.
A mobile game based on the series has also been released in the past.
So, after all these, is Netflix producing a 13th season of the series as well?
