When is ‘The Witcher’ Season 3 set to premiere?
Netflix clearly believes in ‘The Witcher,’ as the franchise is being expanded with spin-offs and even animations, including the eagerly anticipated ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin‘. It means that the renewal of ‘The Witcher’ for season 3 is essentially a formality, and Netflix did not even try to hide it when it announced the renewal at the TUDUM event in September. The placement alone emphasised ‘The Witcher’s importance to Netflix’s future plans, especially in light of the increasingly competitive streaming market.

Unfortunately, there will most likely be a long wait before ‘The Witcher’ season 3 is released. According to showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich, the writers’ room completed the scripts in early December 2021. “Actually, this is our last week [December 3] in the writers’ room”, she told TechRadar. “We are almost done with the scripting phase, and it is amazing. I am really thrilled with how the season is shaping up because it is based on my favourite book in the saga, which is The Time of Contempt. But the creative process is now really just starting. We have the scripts, and now we will bring directors on, the actors back in, and really start delving in deeper and reflecting back and making sure that it is the perfect season”.
Co-star Freya Allan (Ciri) recently admitted to having seen some Witcher scripts, implying that the process has already begun. Even though the epidemic halted production on ‘The Witcher’ season 2, the main photography for season 1 took only three months. Still, because ‘The Witcher’ requires a lot of VFX work, season 3 is unlikely to arrive before the end of 2022 or early 2023.
‘The Witcher’ Season 3: cast
While nothing has gotten confirmed, we believe the main characters from ‘The Witcher’ will return. Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, and Freya Allan as Princess Ciri are among those.
Based on what happened in season 2, Anna Shaffer as Triss, Joey Batey as Jaskier, Eamon Farren as Cahir, MyAnna Buring as Tissaia and Lars Mikkelsen as Stregobor will most likely return. The cast will also include Terence Maynard as Artorius, Tom Canton as Filavandrel, Royce Pierreson as Istredd, and Therica Wilson-Read as Sabrina.
What can you expect from ‘The Witcher’ Season 3?
While no plot has been confirmed, ‘The Witcher’ season 3 will be based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book Time of Contempt. Ciri’s current path will most likely get highlighted since she is getting pursued by almost everyone in the story. So one thing is certain: there will be an epic hunt, with the trio cooperating to protect one another. As a result, we expect the unit to become more like a family, with the three’s fractured connections hopefully restored. According to book speculation, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will most likely travel to Aretuza as a family unit to assist Ciri with her magical abilities.
However, season 2 indicates that the mages will not be amenable to this plan. Schmidt-Hissrich is known for allowing her cast to influence and add ideas to the storylines. Because Henry Cavill has stated that he would like to see more of Nenneke, we may see her assisting Ciri alongside Yennefer instead. Given how big the reveal of Ciri’s father was at the end of season 2, it’s also likely that we’ll see some sort of reunion event, though how that will play out remains to be seen.
