Jason Momoa, to lead The Witcher prequel ‘Blood Origin’?
While the creator, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, and the team are invested in The Witcher Season 2, which is set to release in 2021, Netflix has announced a prequel series. Netflix has announced ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’, a prequel series to Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, and Anya Chalotra starring The Witcher. The Witcher is based on the book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, and the prequel is believed to have the origin in the same story. As stated on the Netflix website, Blood Origin will tell the tales of the origin of the very first Witcher. The show will be set 1200 years before the timeline of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher.
“In an elven world 1,200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men and elves merge to become one — and the very first Witcher arises.”

As soon as Netflix announced the prequel, rumors regarding the show begin raining. And one of the rumors suggested that Netflix is planning to cast Jason Momoa for the lead in The Witcher prequel. We wonder if it won’t give us the Game of Thrones feel.
News of casting Jason Momoa in Blood Origin wasn’t only a rumor.
Right after Netflix announced the prequel, they begin the casting for the show. However, a rumor broke out among the fans that Netflix is planning to cast Aquaman and Game of Thrones’ Khal Drogo star Jason Momoa for the lead in The Witcher prequel. The rumor was soon then reported by We Got This Covered. WGTC reported, “Trusted insider Daniel Richtman has claimed that Momoa is being eyed for a major part in Blood Origin.”
However, this rumor was later followed by a fan-made poster, which had Jason Momoa, as the first Witcher, standing alongside Henry Cavil, as Geralt of Rivia.
The rumor no more remained a rumor once Jason Momoa himself shared this fan art on his Instagram story. Momoa even tagged Henry Cavill and wrote: “what’s up homie…”.
This confirmed that Jason Momoa is being considered for the lead in The Witcher prequel series Blood Origin. However, there are no confirmations regarding the final casting yet from Momoa or Netflix. With the show being in an immature state, we’ll need to wait till we discover if Khal Drogo will walk over The Continent or not.
