Details about what and who we can expect to see in ‘The Witcher’ Season 3 are still scarce. So let’s take a look at what we know so far and the indefinite delays in ‘The Witcher’ 3!
Almost before the second season of Netflix‘s popular fantasy series, ‘The Witcher’ even premiered, the streaming service made the exciting announcement that ‘The Witcher’ season 3 is also in the works. And now that new day has arrived, with Netflix confirming on social media that the third season of ‘The Witcher’ is currently in production. Given that scriptwriting wrapped up at the end of the year and showrunner Lauren Hissrich posted photos of some woods while scouting for locations earlier this year, we could be getting a new season later than expected.

‘The Witcher’ 3 release date delayed?
The third season of ‘The Witcher’ has officially begun production. On April 4, the show’s official Netflix account confirmed the news by posting a photo of Henry Cavill and other cast members on set in a very snowy winter scene. According to recent rumours, ‘The Witcher’ season 3 began filming on April 4 based on the expected production period.
Filming has been ongoing, and with many Covid restrictions lifted around the world, it is possible that we will see the new season by the end of the year. However, given the amount of uncertainty in the world, Henry Cavill’s leg injury, and the usual issues encountered when filming shows of this nature, the next season is more than likely to be in 2023.
What will the third season’s plot be?
According to Hissrich, who spoke exclusively to TechRadar, the plot of the third season will be based on the plot of Time of Contempt. Collider also learned that another main story from Blood of Elves would most likely be told in season 3, contradicting Hissrich’s desire to write a book for each season. Many of the novels contain short stories about Geralt and his companions at various points in their lives, so it makes sense to chop and change things to fit the series.
This massive Blood of Elves plot could be the formation of the Scoia’tael, a sort of alliance between dwarves and elves, or the identity of Rience’s master. Shani, introduced in the books and ‘The Witcher’ 3 DLC Hearts of Stone, could also appear. What is sure that we will hear more from Philippa Eilhart and Dijkstra in Redania, and Vilgefortz’s true intentions will almost certainly get revealed in Aretuza.

The official ‘The Witcher’ Twitter account revealed that Geralt would once again be alternating Ciri away for her protection, and Yen believes Aretuza is the ideal location. If Hissrich sticks to the plot of Time of Content, the story will become even darker and more violent than in previous seasons. Geralt, as always, will be faced with difficult decisions and sides to take, with remaining morally grey no longer an option. Ciri’s abilities continue to grow in both impressiveness and danger. More friends and foes will be on her tail than ever before, especially now that her father has gotten revealed to be Emperor Emhyr of Nilfgaard.
Fans of the show who were perplexed by season 1’s erratic timeline will be relieved to learn that season three will follow in the footsteps of season two, with the show taking place over a shorter time and in chronological order. Many of the cast members, including Cavill and Anya Chalotra, who plays Yennefer, want to stay as true to the books as possible so that their characters properly get represented.
Season 3 cast of ‘The Witcher’
We already know that Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), and Ciri (Freya Allan) will be back in the upcoming season.
Ciri and her fellow mages will most likely return in the next season, now that Triss Merigold (Anna Shaffer) understands Ciri’s abilities.
Furthermore, we expect the Witchers Vesemir (Kim Bodnia), Lambert (Paul Bullion), and Coen to return (Yasen Atour). They all survived their ordeal in Kaer Morhen during the first season’s season finale. Netflix has revealed the identities of four new actors who will appear in season 3 of the show, which will premiere in 2022 or 2023.
