David Chase is reportedly coming back to New Jersey with ‘The Many Saints of Newark’, an exciting prequel to his iconic HBO series ‘The Sopranos’. Does this give space for HBO to extend the ‘The Sopranos’ into the world of TV series?
‘The Sopranos’ was HBO’s first signature dramatization. It was a mega-hit which drew a lot of limelight during its six-season run and earned a huge number of awards, including two best drama series Emmys. Chase is planning to revisit the story of some of the cherished characters from the Emmy-winning series, including Tony Soprano (to be played by the late James Gandolfini’s child, Michael Gandolfini) in his new series.

‘The Many Saints of Newark’ is set to be a prequel to ‘The Sopranos’, and allegedly features some of the most beloved characters from the series. Fans, taking advantage of the situation, poked around the authorities at HBO about a reboot of the show and, to their luck, HBO did not say no!
What did the authorities have to say about this?
David Chase is grinding away on a prequel to ‘The Sopranos’ called ‘The Many Saints of Newark’. In light of the situation, HBO’s president of programming, Casey Bloys, faced a lot of inquiries as to whether this will give light to a legendary reboot.
“I keep saying, never say never”, HBO President of Programming, Casey Bloys, responded.
He further added, “There are no plans, there are no discussions about it, but (Michael) is a really good actor, we had him on ‘The Deuce’. There is nothing on the table at the moment but I will stay open”.
HBO seems to be approaching this slowly and carefully, which is a good idea given the huge fan-base of the series. However, this seemingly affirmative response from the authorities has left the fans hoping for some more development!
Which characters are set to reappear in ‘The Many Saints of Newark’?
‘The Many Saints of Newark’ is set to hit the screens in the latter part of 2020.
The show is set in the 1960s in a world which was created and maintained all through the hit series ‘The Sopranos’.
The film recounts the story of Richard “Dickie” Moltisanti, cousin to Carmela and father to Christopher. Dickie’s death, which happened to precede the show’s course of events, is what induced Tony to take Christopher, who was just a kid at that point, under his wing.
Alessandro Nivola will play Dickie. Other actors who will return include Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, and Vera Farmiga as Tony’s mother, Livia.
So, it will show the young version of Tony Soprano (Michael Gandolfini will star as Tony, taking up the role from his late dad, James Gandolfini) and some other notable characters in their primes.
