The Office reboot? Talks are on
Now that NBC’s video streaming service Peacock is up and rolling, fans have started pitching for The Office reboot. NBC said that subscribers will not only have access to the full series, but also a reboot that is in the pipeline. Even before the launch of Peacock, Bonnie Hammer told Deadline, “It is my hope and goal that we do an Office reboot.”
She further added that talks were in progress to shape up the series for a tenth season.“The Office comes back to us in January 2021. I hope we can figure what that great reboot would be. We are having conversations.”
Shifting homes: From Netflix to Peacock
The Office has become a hit on Netflix and features on the list of most-watched series on the platform. All the nine seasons have been available here since 2013 and it has earned a loyal fan base. According to Jumpshot, The Office was the most popular show on Netflix in 2018. In 2019, it was the most-binged series with 52 billion minutes watched.
NBC Universal doesn’t want to lose the fan-base to Netflix. A show like The Office can give a great start to the newly-launched streaming platform. According to contracts, Netflix will pull off the series by the end of 2020. Peacock will then exclusively stream it.
In the current scenario, all video streaming platforms are competing for streaming rights to popular old TV sitcoms. Parks and Recreation will also move from Netflix to Peacock this October. Netflix has gained all seasons of Seinfield. HBO Max gained the rights to The Big Bang Theory.

Peacock to launch The Office reboot
Time is ripe for a reboot of The Office because it is a season of reboots. The reunion segment of the epic sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S will premiere this year. Fans of The Office also want their favourite sitcom to come up with a spectacular reboot season. Some actors in the show feel that the sitcom will not be relevant in the current scenario.
But, the fans of the show think otherwise. The Office has created so many pop- culture references and one-liners for us that there’s no chance it is ever going out of fashion. Greg Daniels, who created The Office is currently busy with two shows —Upload and Space Force (with Steve Carell). Space Force is already ruling the charts on Netflix.
Seeing the graph of Greg Daniels, we don’t need to worry about the relevance of The Office reboot in 2021 or later. All we have to do is pray for NBCU’s digital enterprise chairman Bonnie Hammer and co to make it happen.
