- How to watch the newly released episodes of ‘Euphoria’?
Both the special episodes will follow after the end of the first season of ‘Euphoria’, in which Rue suffered a relapse after using cocaine when her girlfriend Jules left her. Let’s get to know more about the first special episode of ‘Euphoria’ and when the second episode will be out.
First special episode of ‘Euphoria’
In October, “Deadline” confirmed that HBO would be releasing two new ‘Euphoria’ episodes that will connect the high drama series season one with its upcoming season two. The first episode, “Trouble Don’t Last Always“, was released early on December 4. The special was shot way back in September under strict pandemic guidelines.
The episode began with heroin-addicted Rue (Zendaya Coleman) dreaming a scenario in which both she and her girlfriend Jules (Hunter Schafer) were living happily together, though she quickly zaps back into reality. Rue then meets Ali, her sponsor, at a diner to discuss her relapse.
Ali didn’t hold back in asking Rue if she actually wants to get clean. Rue told Ali that she doesn’t plan on it. Ali tried explaining to Rue that the longer she uses drugs, the more she is going to lose.
Ali then opened up about his past life, and what and who he has lost due to his addiction. The entire episode is mostly Ali lecturing Rue about surrendering to a higher power and Rue diverging whatever he is saying.
At one point in the episode, Rue admits to Ali how she doesn’t see a point in getting better because she doesn’t really plan on being here that long. It was one of the most shocking and painful moments for the audience and Ali to hear Rue talk about ending her life.
Ali did try to change her mind by asking how she would want her mother and sister to remember her after she’s gone. Tears began to roll down Rue’s face when she thought about the hurt it will cause her family. She then told Ali that she would like them to remember her as someone who tried really hard to be someone but could not. The episode ended with Ali driving Rue home.
Levinson and Zendaya talk about Rue in the latest special episode
‘Euphoria’s’ special episode premiere revolved around Rue’s addiction as well as her take on many other things. Ali also spoke to her about Jules and how dating might not be the best thing for someone trying to get sober.
In the featurette after the episode, creator Sam Levinson, the showrunner, said that the episode is starting to kind of sow the seeds that Rue’s perspective is very much Rue’s perspective, and she’s not always accurate in her retelling of things. She is limited in her ability to understand the emotional worlds of other characters, and it leaves open the other side of the story, which is Jules’ side.
In the featurette, Zendaya also talked about her character. She spoke about how Rue fell in love with this idea of something that she never actually was clear about. Zendaya further felt that both of them (Rue and Jules) don’t know or have the emotional understanding to be able to have a conversation about how they feel. With that, she feels comes a lot of miscommunication.
Hunter Schafer also spoke about her character, Jules. She spoke about how Jules feels the pressure of Rue’s sobriety resting on her and thinks that Jules is really worried that if she makes the wrong move with Rue, it could go straight back to relapsing. And that contradicts with the two of them being very in love.
How to watch the newly released episodes of ‘Euphoria’?
Fans who aren’t subscribed to HBO Max can still watch the first special episode on HBO. Those who were subscribed on HBO Max got to watch the ‘Euphoria’ special episode two days prior to its premiere on December 6.
The next special episode of ‘Euphoria’ will release on December 13 and would be from the perspective of Jules. Just like how the usual different location scenario was ditched in the first special episode, a similar format can be expected.
