‘The Marvellous Mrs Maisel’ – A woman’s rise in the world of comedy
‘The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel’ has found praise for its enjoyable storytelling, hilarious dialogues, and enthralling performances since its release on March 17th, 2017. The series follows Miriam “Midge” Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan), a Jewish housewife, on an inspiring journey as she sets out to become a stand-up comedienne in a very sexist world set in the 1950s and 60s. Brosnahan’s extraordinary portrayal of a woman breaking barriers to pursue her dreams has won her multiple Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Awards for best actress in a comedy television series and is the highlight of the series.

The show’s perspective on being a woman in a man’s world brings the focus to Midge’s life as a wife dealing with a cheating husband, a mother, a friend, and a career woman. It enlightens you about the nuances of womanhood. It uses intelligent humour to address social injustice and norms that women are much too often forced to comply with.
It has Sherman-Palladino’s quintessential mark all over it, being high in the wit and humour departments. The stand-up element which is an integral part of the show has been lauded for being novel and unique. It gave Prime Video it’s the biggest opening yet on its premiere.
Season 3: When Midge’s life came crashing down
Season 3 witnessed Midge grow as a comedienne, as success started coming her way in the form of better gigs. She was asked to be a part of singer Shy Baldwin’s show and perform stand-up. However, in the season finale, things came crashing down as she was fired from the tour for making an inappropriate joke. The season concluded, leaving Midge and her career in jeopardy, opening doors to a lot more drama in season 4.
Season 4: Here are all the details revealed till now
While talking about the upcoming season, Sherman-Palladino said,
“We fucked [Midge] up pretty good at the end of [Season 3]. We’ve knocked her back a few times on the show. But that’s what show business is. It’s one step forward, two steps back — that’s the life of a comic. And let’s not forget, we’re still talking about a female comic in 1960. It’s hard enough for a female comic to get a toehold today but forget about the 60s when there were, like, four of them”.
The showrunners have revealed that they already know exactly what will happen in season 4 and have enough material to develop a fifth season as well. The storyline involving Susie’s gambling problem will be explored more in the upcoming season as it with a backcloth of more cultural elements of the 1960s. It will be exciting to see how Midge deals with the failure she experienced at the end of season 3.
