Created by showrunner Sam Bobrick, the show ran for 4 seasons but was so popular that it gave way to a reboot called ‘Saved by the Bell: The College Years’, followed by two movies, ‘Saved by the Bell: Hawaiian Style’ and ‘Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas’. Not just this, in 1993 the series got a spinoff with an all-new cast – ‘Saved by the Bell: The New Class’ – that ran successfully for 7 seasons. The pop-culture phenomenon is finally back this year with its TV show revival and NBC has set the date!
Saved by the Bell’– The iconic teen sitcom of the ‘90s
It was one of the most influential teen shows in the 1990s and gave its young viewers quite a line-up of heartthrobs and teen idols. The comedy series was set in a fictional high school, Bayside High, and followed the lives of the students there. The show was narrated by its character Zach Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), a loveable schemer who was often seen getting low grades throughout school but had the dream of going to Yale. His circle included girlfriend, Kelly Kapowski (Tiffani Thiessen), friends, Screech (Dustin Diamond), Jessie Spano (Elizabeth Berkley), and Lisa Turtle (Lark Voorhies) along with Jock, A.C. Slater (Mario Lopez).

‘Saved by the Bell’ was cheesy, feel-good, and heart-warming and displayed friendships that lasted for a lifetime. Despite being a sitcom, the series was considered informational and was lauded for its positive influence on teen audiences and its portrayal of issues such as underage drinking, driving under influence, as well as addiction. The series was capable of being out-and-out hilarious and silly, but also serious and sensible.
With its widespread popularity came multiple sequels and reboots, and the show has come back with an official revival/sequel this year.

The original cast is back and set to reprise their roles in this 2020 revival. Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez will be seen in main roles while Tiffani Thiessen and Ed Alonzo will be seen in recurring roles. Berkley took to Instagram to express her excitement:
“I’M SO EXCITED … here we gooooo!!! @mariolopez … are you ready for grownup Jessie?! Jessie and Slater are back for more fun. We are thrilled to have Emmy winning 30 Rock writer @TraceyWigfield bring the sequel to life on NBC/Universal”.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar will not only be back as Zack in a recurring role but will also serve as one of the executive producersin the upcoming show. The series will also feature several fresh faces as new students at Bayside High.
It was reported that the production of the reboot was halted in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic right before Gosselaar and Thiessen could shoot for their parts.

The grand premiere – Have you saved the date?
The official synopsis of the upcoming series reads as follow:
“When California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over-privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.”
The original cast will have their kids in this revival and will be shown in their original setting. Till April, the release date that had been set was July 15, 2020. However, the makers have expressed doubt on whether they will actually be able to make the date. Considering how most of the show has already been shot, except a few parts involving Zack and Kelly, the makers might push its premiere a little further. There is no official confirmation yet, but the web series is unquestionably coming back this year itself and will not be pushed to 2021 like several other shows right now.
