After a two-year wait, ‘The End Of The F***ing World’ finally landed on Netflix with its second season for us to binge-watch in November 2019. Season 2, which was one of the most awaited seasons, followed lead characters Alyssa and James’ lives, as they face the consequences of their activities in season 1.
Fans are already anticipating the third season which may or may not be in the pipeline. But, here’s everything we know about the potential ‘The End Of The F***ing World’ Season 3 so far.

Is Season 3 Confirmed Yet?
There is no official announcement by the showrunners confirming that the show will return with season 3. In an interview, the show’s creator, Charlie Covell, also expressed his reluctance to continue the show beyond two series. He said, “I don’t think you’re going to get another series. I think sometimes it’s good to just stop things and I hope when you see the end you’ll agree. I think you can push things but this feels like an actual end. Sorry”.
Despite that, fans can still hope for a third season. And why do we say that? It’s because, season two, which Covell had initially not planned to create, wasn’t commissioned until 10 months after the end of season one. So it’s quite possible that, just like last time, she finds a reason to return with season 3. Meanwhile, we can hope for an idea to cross her mind or for her to be struck by inspiration to continue James and Alyssa’s story in the coming months.
With that, the showrunner has also spoken previously about the possibility to revisit the show in chunks— checking in on the couple at various stages throughout their lives. “I think the problem is that, otherwise, you’ve got to always appeal to teenage fans, but then it’s like: can you just appeal to the people that like the show, and as they grow?” Covell told an entertainment website.

When Will The Third Season Release?
We can’t ignore the fact that a new season hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. But if we get a third season which follows the pattern of the two series that have been aired so far, then we can expect the new batch of episodes late next year.
What Do The Lead Actors Have To Say About The Potential Season 3?
In an interview, the lead actors opened up about the kind of roles they wish to play. Jessica Barden, who plays Alyssa, and Alex Lawther, who stars as James, have said they’d love to work together again, be it in the third season of ‘The End Of The F***ing World’, or not.
“I really wanna play a female Joker”, Barden said, “I wanna play a psychopath”.
“I could play Harley Quinn and you can play the Joker!” Alex responded.
Coming to the third season, Lawther said, “It’s very early to be discussing that”. While Barden agreed and said, “anything can happen. I might not even be an actress by season three”.
In the same context, she also said, “If people enjoy something, you know, why wouldn’t you want to do it again?”
“The series is still about the same two people. It really is still about the two people that people responded to before. It’s not like they’re completely different people in any way. In some ways, they are. They’re still very complex.”
When The Show Returns, Who Could Be In The Cast?
If the show does return for another batch of episodes, we can’t imagine it without the lead actors Jessica Barden (Alyssa) and Alex Lawther (James). “It just wouldn’t work (without us both)”, Barden said in an interview. “The show is Alyssa and James together, you know – that’s what it is”.
Except them, Alyssa’s mother Gwen (Christine Bottomley) would likely reprise her role, while Bonnie (Naomi Ackie) would be unlikely to return, given what happened to her character at the end of season two. Fans can also expect some new characters to be introduced, especially if the third series was set later in the couple’s lives.
