Peter Morgan’s ‘The Crown’, which has only 3 seasons out on Netflix, is once again in the news for a season 4 renewal that could happen very soon. But, when exactly would the highly expected season release? Read on to know more.
What is ‘The Crown’ about?
The series follows the royal life of Queen Elizabeth II who, at a very young age, had to take the throne upon her father’s death. From her marriage to Prince Philip, to her relationship with Lady Diana Spencer, to entering and understanding the modern world of the 21st century, the series covers it all.
‘The Crown’ has been well acclaimed by critics as “class act”, “beautiful”, and “confident”. Peter Morgan’s masterfully researched scripts reveal the Queen’s private journey behind the public facade, with daring frankness. This drama follows the political rivalries and romance of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and the events that shaped the second half of the 20th century.
The most anticipated royal lady will finally be on screen.
After three great seasons, the series has finally come to the point, from the historical past, where Diana Spencer aka Princess Diana enters the royal family. Season 4 has been reported to be the most awaited season in which Emma Corrin will take up the role of Lady Diana.

When ‘The Crown’ announced that she’d gotten the part, Corrin was over the moon.
“I have been glued to the show and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is surreal”, she said in a statement. “Princess Diana was an icon and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To explore her through, Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice”.
What will season 4 be about?
Most likely, season four will unfold against the backdrop of the 80s and early 90s, with Queen Elizabeth and Margaret Thatcher dealing the former’s rage on the latter’s refusal to back the sanctions against South African apartheid.

Thatcher served as Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990, so it’s fair to assume that she will feature heavily in the drama. The marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana will no doubt be dissected, along with their separation and divorce. Their wedding day, which took place on July 29, 1981, arguably deserves a dedicated episode all on its own.
Along with that, the births of their two sons- William and Harry- and their upbringing throughout their parents’ marriage and after the bitter divorce will be brought to light.
There are speculations that the season might go on to show Prince Charles’ scandals, his marriage to Camilia, and his estranged relationship with Princess Diana, his mother, and two children. The fourth season might just end at Princess Diana’s death and the controversies that surrounded the royal family, suggesting that her Majesty was behind the brutal unexpected death.
When will season 4 release?
As of yet, no release date has been confirmed by the showrunners or actors of the show. However, the good news is that ‘The Crown’ Season 4 shooting ended sometime in mid-March, right before the coronavirus outbreak worsened and the government ordered a strict lockdown.
Consequently, there are speculations that the series will be released by November or December 2020, approximately a year since season 3 was aired.
