‘The Crown’ Season 4 – The Margaret and Diana Years
Season 4 of ‘The Crown’ will cover the period between 1979 and 1990 of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. With some of the biggest and most interesting controversies, season 4 of ‘The Crown’ will cover some of the major political and personal developments surrounding the life of England’s queen. Season 4 of the Netflix drama will introduce the two women who shook England and the monarchy – Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher. The upcoming season will cover the biggest controversial political dramas that made the headings of the Thatcher era. It would include the swanking up of the attacks by IRA, the turbulent relationship between England and South Africa regarding “apartheid”, and the Falklands war. Besides, the bad blood between Buckingham Palace and Downing Street after Thatcher’s emergence as the people’s choice in 1979 stands to be detailed in the coming season, ending with Thatcher’s loss of office in 1990.
On the personal front, the season’s focus will be on the courtship years of Prince Charles and Lady Diana followed by their wedding in 1981. Princes Charles’ obsession with Camilla Parker Bowles and the falling out of his marriage with Diana will be a major subplot for season 4 of ‘The Crown’. The season will also provide the screen space to present Prince Charles and Lady Diana’s 1983 Australia tour as well as Lady Diana’s solo New York City tour in 1989. Speaking of the iconic role, Emma Corrin who plays Princess Diana in season 4 said, “You really see her turn from a girl into a woman. We see her before she goes into the palace when she is living with her flatmates, and how normal she was before she was plucked from obscurity”.
‘The Crown’ Season 4 Cast
The cast will remain more or less similar to what it was in season 3 of the show except for a few new additions to the royal team. Olivia Colman will return as Queen Elizabeth II, of course! Tobias Mendes will return to play the Duke of Edinburgh, while the gorgeous Helena Bonham Carter will continue with her character as Princess Margaret. Josh O’ Connor will play Prince Charles and Emerald Fennell will reprise her role as Camilla Parker Bowles. Erin Doherty will play Princess Anne in season 4 of ‘The Crown’. As for the new cast members, Gillian Anderson is joining the team as Margaret Thatcher and Emma Corrin as Diana, Princess of Wales.
Series creator Peter Morgan advocated for his choice of having the beautiful Emma Corrin play the role of Lady Diana. He said, “Emma is a brilliant talent who immediately captivated us when she came in for the part of Diana Spencer. As well as having the innocence and beauty of a young Diana, she also has, in abundance, the range and complexity to portray an extraordinary woman who went from anonymous teenager to becoming the most iconic woman of her generation”.
‘The Crown’ Season 4 Release Date
Although most of the productions had come to a rude halt earlier this year in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, ‘The Crown’ continued to get on with its shooting. Perhaps, it did not make sense to stop at the final step of the season’s filming. The final week of ‘The Crown’ season 4 filming carried on with the normal routine to “tie up loose ends” at a time when the rest of the world was shutting its doors. Nevertheless, all’s well that ends well.
‘The Crown’ Season 4 is all set and ready to pull up the curtains on November 15, 2020. Meanwhile, teasers of the upcoming season have already made its way to the screens. Keep them on the loop button, until you get your hands on the real crown!
