Remember the letter by Howard’s Dad in ‘The Big Bang Theory’, the content of which was never revealed? Yeah, we are talking about that same letter.
Well, it turns out the fans have unravelled the mystery behind Howard’s Dad’s letter – the one he gave to him when he left Howard and his mother.
Highlights
- Howard’s Dad’s letter’s mystery.
- Fans guess the real version out of all.
- Decoding the content of the letter.
How the plot unfolded
Howard spent years hiding the only letter given to him by his Dad. However, in season 6’s episode titled ‘The Closet Reconfiguration’, during a dinner night at Howard’s, Sheldon stumbled upon the letter while reorganising Howard and Bernadette’s closet.
Although Howard burnt the letter, Sheldon’s loud mouth couldn’t stop telling everyone what was inside it. So, eventually, everyone knew what was in the letter except Howard. In order to keep Howard from knowing what his Dad had written in the letter, everyone decided to tell their own version of the content. However, only one out of all those versions was real.
What were their versions?
Raj described the letter as a birthday card with a wish full of love from his father. Well, Sheldon being Sheldon, describes the plot of ‘The Goodies’ and stated that the letter had a map to find a secret treasure.
Furthermore, Amy claimed that Howard’s dad had been present in his school auditorium when he graduated.

Bernadette said that the letter contained a picture of baby Howard with a note that said, “Howard, my son, my greatest gift”.
Penny claimed that the letter explained why his Dad left and that he had a separate life. Lastly, Leonard expressed that the card inclined more towards regret and said how his Dad wanted him to remember that family was everything and that it shouldn’t be thrown away.
Mystery solved, is it?
Fans on Reddit have stripped down to the version of two people, either of whom was telling the truth – Amy or Bernadette.
Redditor user jmt2589 posted: “I read somewhere that it was Amy because she’s the only one who was seated that stood up when it was her turn”.

Some of them think it was Bernadette because she, being his wife, deserved to be the one telling the truth.
However, one of the theories that we came across comes from a psychological standpoint and it won’t hurt to consider that one either.
A Reddit user wrote, “Hello guys! I’m watching Tbbt a second time now and came over this episode that intrigued me the first time I had seen it; it’s quite emotional and one of the best episodes of Tbbt there is.
Basically, each one of them looked Howard straight in the eyes when they were telling their part of the story, apart from Penny; she looked to her left a total of 3 times, I think, and usually: when people lie, they look to their right. When people are telling the truth, they look to the left.
Penny didn’t do this once, she did it 3 times. Everyone else was big-eyed, staring at Howard without looking anywhere else the entire time. It should also be noted, Leonard emphasised that only one of them was true. Knowing Tbbt to be the show that it is, priding itself in the little details, this can’t be a coincidence.
TLDR: it’s Penny”.
Well, the show went off air after its final season last year. Guess, we’ll never know the truth.
However, feel free to interpret and come up with your guesses.
