The show is a seven-time Emmy winner and continues to enjoy a fanbase of millions around the globe. It ran for a whopping 279 episodes from September 2007 to May last year. The show has also given birth to a prequel, Young Sheldon, which is based on the childhood of fan-favorite character Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons). The Big Bang Theory reboot? What can we expect?
After a long run of 279 episodes, The Big Bang Theory finally came to an end in May 2019 last year. Although at the start of the show, the critics were not too high on it, it quickly gained an audience and went on to increase its ratings season after season. The actors have also become known faces, owing to the unique portrayals. When it comes to a reboot, show leads Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar and Johnny Galecki are all on board, especially Kaley, who had expressed her dismay at the show’s conclusion and expressed how much she would be on board for a reboot in an interview with a leading entertainment magazine. Mark Cendrowski, the director, said that the fans of the show want a reboot and even though Chuck Lorre may have decided to end the series, it isn’t entirely impossible for them to revive it. He added that he is not interested in cashing in on it but rather make the fans wait sometime before he and others go on to explore one of the character’s lives in a reboot or spin-off.
Let’s take a look at Seinfeld’s legacy
In times where reboots and re-imaginations of iconic old shows are everywhere, it might not be impossible for a Seinfeld reboot to happen. The show has had a lasting cultural impact on America and is recognised as one of the best sitcoms to have ever rocked the small screen. When it was aired, the show was watched by millions and was bigger than anything that had come before it. In a talk show interview, Jerry Seinfeld (after whom the show was named and also the creator) said that a reboot may be possible, but on the other hand, he himself is not too enthusiastic about recreating something that “already went and ended pretty well” to quote him.
What do The Big Bang Theory stars and fans think?
Ever since The Big Bang Theory ended, its fans have jumped at any hint or rumour regarding a possible reboot. Although fans did get the charming prequel in Young Sheldon (which is about Jim Parsons’ character in his childhood), they do want something bigger, like a reboot of the original show with the entire cast. It is not just fans, show lead Kaley Cuoco as well as director Mark Cendrowski have expressed their leanings towards the idea of a reboot. However, the reboot has not been officially announced.
Dispelling all rumours about the Seinfeld reboot-
Jerry Seinfeld teased the fans with a reboot for over 2 decades now in various interviews and statements. As things stand today, it is unlikely that he would follow through. This is because each time a reboot is brought up, he has answered negatively and been unenthusiastic about spin offs. It seems like fans should lose their hope and just re-watch the original show on Hulu.
