Earlier in March this year, ABC shut down Season 16 of The Bachelorette following the Covid-19 outbreak. Chris Harrison had taken to Instagram to talk about how initially, the filming was supposed to be suspended for just two weeks, and then the team could reassess the situation and move forward.
“In two weeks, we will reassess where we are in the world and figure out what’s happening, if we can move forward. Things are not changing by the day, they’re changing by the hour,” he said.
Even though the current circumstances might put an end to the International travels and bring about a lot more rules that the show-runners will have to follow before they can begin filming, we’re certain fans are in for a surprise.
Let’s meet the new bachelor and bachelorette, learn all about what’s happening with the upcoming seasons and find out if the show-runners have hinted at a date for its release!
Meet the new bachelor and bachelorette
Clare Crawley is no stranger to The Bachelor nation! Fans have known her ever since she was the runner-up in season 18 of The Bachelor, and threw shade at Juan Pablo Galavis during their breakup.
After the season, she continued to star in two consecutive seasons of Bachelor In Paradise, before finding love on Bachelor Winter Games and saying yes to a shocking proposal! Unfortunately, Clare’s happiness was short-lived as her engagement with fiance Benoit was called off after just two months. She’s been on a quest for love for so long now, and hey, maybe fifth time’s the charm!

Where do we begin with Matt James? The show finally cast the first-ever bachelor of colour after many years of being questioned about the lack of diversity in the franchise. Matt was originally set to be a contestant on Clare’s season, before the channel decided to cast him as the new bachelor.
If you’ve been paying any attention to Bachelor nation for the past year and follow the contestants on social media, you must have seen Matt James on his roommate and business partner, Tyler Cameron’s (who was seriously popular on Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette last year) feed!
Here’s the scoop on the upcoming seasons
Word is that Clare’s season will begin filming later this year, at the La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, California. The resort has a staggering 41 pools, 23 tennis courts, 796 guest rooms and several restaurants. It is slated to open in September, which is when the filming is most likely to begin.
“They’re scoping out multiple different resorts to see if it’s possible to film the entire season in one location,” an insider informed US Weekly in April. “The show has discussed filming the season without the usual travel.”
Now there’s no forest trail or waterfall, no opportunities to explore new cities or activities that include jumping off a plane, but at least the season is happening! The network announced their fall schedule in June 2020, revealing that The Bachelorette will air at 8 pm on Tuesdays, instead of the usual Monday slot.
Is there a release date for The Bachelor and The Bachelorette?
Claire’s journey might be on hold for now, but The Bachelorette is the franchise’s top priority when the production shutdown comes to an end. The casting for Clare’s season is ongoing, as some of the men that were originally cast are unavailable whenever the show returns.
“Maybe we do it all this summer, but if things don’t go as planned with this virus and with this quarantine, maybe we won’t have time to do it all,” says Chris Harrison, the show’s host, according to a report posted on Gold Derby. “So we have to think, ‘OK what is our priority?’ It’s trying to create any content in the interim, and then let’s get The Bachelorette.”
The schedule for The Bachelor, though, has not changed. Typically, the show films through the second half of the year, September through November, and then premieres on the first Monday in the new year. ABC is hopeful that The Bachelor season 25 might just be on schedule this time.
