‘Supernatural’ coming to an end this fall
Fifteen glorious years later, the superverse of ‘Supernatural’ opened its doors to heaven and hell for the last time this year. Fans were all ready to engage in the adventures of Sam and Dean Winchester for the last time until the final season had to be brought to a rude halt due to the pandemic. The production schedule of ‘Supernatural’ allowed only 13 episodes to be completed out of the 20 episodes of the season, before complete shutdown in March. Evidently, only seven more episodes are left for the final season of The CW series, which will begin appearing on our screens from 8th October.
As for what we could expect from the final episodes, it’s safe to say that the cast and production team of ‘Supernatural’ are working towards providing a just send-off and closure to the show and the fans. Jensen Ackles teased the fans about the final two episodes with deliberate slips like episode 19 being the season finale and episode 20 being the series finale. Whatever they do, their main objective is to “end 15 years the right way”.
Does that mean that the end is the end? Or will the finale make way for new ideas of a ‘Supernatural’ spin-off?

‘Wayward Sisters’ – The ‘Supernatural’ spin-off that didn’t make it
‘Supernatural’ is not new to the spin-off discussions and with its finale approaching the buzz is turning more into a noise. The show was introduced to many ideas for a spin-off, and the one that stood out the most was ‘Wayward Sisters’.
The idea for ‘Wayward Sisters’ was carefully planted as a backdoor pilot into season 13 of ‘Supernatural’ and it immediately resonated well with the audience. The positive reaction to the spin-off idea mainly generated from the assurance that it would follow the popular female characters of the parent series through new adventures. The spin-off, however, lost its spot to the other CW popular series spin-off, ‘Legacies’.
In a press statement, the president of the network, Mark Pedowitz said,
“We are big fans of the characters and the women who played those characters … We hope they continue on as guest stars on ‘Supernatural’ … But we did not feel creatively that the show was where we wanted it to be. And we felt we had a better shot with [‘The Originals’ spinoff] ‘Legacies’”.
The announcement dinged up a bummer on the hopes of the many fans of the series. With ‘Supernatural’ actually approaching its finale, and with ‘Wayward Sisters’ remaining out of the play, could there be the slightest chance at a new spin-off idea? Yes, and no.
‘Supernatural’ spin-off movie on the cards?
While The CW boss has been very firm on his decision of not reviving ‘Supernatural’ after the finale, executive producer Robert Singer feels positive about his new spin-off idea. Singer is open to the thoughts of adapting the show to the silver screen if given a chance. On one hand, Pedowitz has dismissed ‘Wayward Sisters’ stating that the soul of ‘Supernatural’ comes from Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.
He said, “I’ve been involved in two spin-offs that did not connect. We’ve had no further discussions whatsoever in terms of a ‘Supernatural’ spin-off. I tend to believe that, at this point, the show’s essence is Jared and Jensen”.
Singer, on the other hand, believes that a spin-off movie version of the show is doable preferably after a brief hiatus. He said,
“I don’t think it’s a pipe dream … So I’m certainly not ruling it out. It’s something I’d be interested in. I think the boys would probably love to do it. But right now, we’re just trying to get through this [final] season and do it in a way that people will be happy with it”.
