‘Suits’ called pack-up after season 9
The sun has set on the land of the suitors and before America’s favourite legal drama could have completed a decade, it was called off. Created by the man who gave the world the Specter-Ross bromance, ‘Suits’ had successfully garnered a tribe of faithful followers who, till this day, haven’t quite processed the demise of the show. ‘Suits’ started off with a promising story and powerful characters like Harvey Specter, Mike Ross, Jessica Pearson, Louis Litt, Rachel Zane, and (if you thought we’d leave her out, booyah!) Donna. Right from its genesis, the USA Network’s legal drama had undergone a sea of changes. ‘Suits’ was initially intended to be a Wall Street drama which later had to be changed into a legal one as per the network’s demand. Besides, ‘Suits’ went through major changes in the cast with Gina Torres, Meghan Markle, and Patrick J. Adams leaving in-between seasons. The show’s viewership took a hit, especially post-season 7, with Meghan Markle’s and Patrick J. Adams’ exit.
Honestly, after Mike and Rachel left to fight pro-bono cases in Seattle, the show appeared to have been dragging itself. Korsh said, “We’d lost Gina and we came up with a plan to extend the cast for two more years beyond season 7 to seasons 8 and 9 … During the course of season 7, as they were negotiating the cast’s contracts for two years, an unforeseen thing happened. You can never know that one of your stars is going to marry the Prince of England, and Patrick decided not to return, so we had a choice whether to keep going after season 7. We decided that the original plan was a 16-episode season 8 and a 10-episode season 9, let’s see if we can do that”.
After this was decided, there was no hope about the return of ‘Suit’s Mike or Rachel.
Suitors figure out what season 10 of ‘Suits’ could look like
‘Suits’ decided to pull back its case ahead of season 10, but fellow suitors aren’t ones to give up on their dreams yet. Fans have been working their brains out imagining what season 10 of ‘Suits’ could look like. A fan pointed out that with Harvey and Donna moving to Seattle to join Mike and Rachel fighting pro-bono cases, Louis would probably pick up his duties as the managing partner of the firm. However, it’s impossible to envision the firm without Harvey, because well, Harvey is the firm!
If season 10 of ‘Suits’ were to really happen, it should be Seattle based.
Season 10 should show Mike and Harvey putting their thinking caps on once again, with and not against each other, and, of course, Donna being Donna. A fan wrote on “Reddit”, “[Season 10 of ‘Suits’] Probably would also somehow follow Harvey in Seattle w/ Donna. Plus Mike as a recurring character”. To be fair, the only way season 10 of ‘Suits’ would work is if it brings back the bro-goals duo Harvey and Mike because there ain’t no ‘Suits’ without Harvey Specter! Apart from the question of the return of Mike’s character to ‘Suits’, is also that of ‘Suits’ Season 10 ensuring the return of Meghan Markle as Rachel.
Could season 10 of ‘Suits’ be possible?
Two weddings, one birth, and “One Last Con” later, ‘Suits’ retired from the game. It was surprising enough that ‘Suits’ could deal with the blow of Jessica Pearson, Mike Ross, and Rachel Zane leaving and still continue for two more seasons. Undoubtedly, with key players of show opting out, continuing ‘Suits’ with season 10 would be dragging it a bit too far. The story of ‘Suits’ feels complete and told. There are no loose ends, everyone has met their deserved ends, and a sense of nostalgia pervades through the finale. Fortunately, unlike most other shows, no ‘Suits’ TV show controversy led to the show’s downfall.
Picturing Harvey and Donna reuniting with Mike and Rachel for the greater good is the perfect end that fans could have asked for. As promised by the ‘Suits’ boss, the show ended with “some happiness and some sadness”. It would be a crime to disturb that beautiful finale effect!
