Captain Marvel 2 might show Carol and Spider-Woman as more than friends
MCU’s Captain Marvel skyrocketed in terms of popularity. The standalone movie was one of the highest-grossing movies of Marvel. Carol Danvers sure charmed the fandom.

- Spider-Woman might play Carol’s love interest.

However, what’s even more hugely anticipated is the sequel of this blockbuster. Captain Marvel 2 is already in the works and will soon hit theatres in 2022, kick-starting Marvel’s phase 5.
The mere information that Captain Marvel 2 will be the first production in phase 5 points out to the introduction of a major MCU character.
Who could the new superhero be?
Well, rumour has it that Rogue will be introduced as the villain in Captain Marvel 2. A member of the mutant terrorist group, this X-Men character will reportedly fight tooth and nail with the all-consuming Captain Marvel.
However, here’s where things get even more interesting.

In the comic version, when Captain Marvel is attacked and trapped by Rogue and is physically injured to no bounds, there’s one superhero that rescues her and ensures her full recovery.

Any guesses? Well, no, it is not Monica Rambeau.
Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman comes to Carol’s rescue. If that happens in the movie, it would make the plot even more exciting.
What would this mean?
Although Spider-Woman comes under the Spider-Man verse and the character rights are enjoyed by Sony, it wouldn’t harm anyone to think of what-ifs, right?
The writers of Captain Marvel have been working on evolving the character of Carol Danver’s and openly talking about her sexuality.
If they do, this would be Marvel’s first movie with an openly gay character, instead of leaving it to the viewer’s imagination of the narrative ahead. This brings me back to my theory. Since Jessica literally helps Carol out of trauma and injury, they become extremely close and something could be brewing between the two of them. Simply put, Jessica Drew could be the very love interest of Captain Marvel!
Together, they might form a team and run against the villain in Captain Marvel 2.
It would be wonderful if that happens, isn’t it? Moreover, this would give a go to Spider-Woman in MCU and lay foundations for a stand-alone movie in the future. Who wouldn’t love that!
