Exciting news ahead – The ‘Sons of Anarchy’ prequel series will be in the works soon, says creator Kurt Sutter.
We bet you’ve been trying to fill the void left by ‘Sons of Anarchy’ by watching it repeatedly. If you too are heart-broken after the series finale, this announcement might get your spirits up. The series that took its final bow six years ago might be getting its very own prequel and sequel soon!
- What is ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ about?
- The ‘Sons of Anarchy’ prequel will see a young Jax Teller?
- Here’s what the creator has to say about the spin-off shows
‘Sons of Anarchy’ aired between 2008 and 2014, starring Charlie Hunnam as the legendary motorcycle gang member Jax Teller. Premiering on the cable network FX, it was the highest-rated show for the platform during its time. The series kept viewers guessing with its unpredictability and featured a stellar cast.
But the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ prequel won’t be the first spin-off to join the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ universe! Sutter also created ‘Mayans M.C.’ that aired in 2018, another spin-off that is centred around the titular Latino club.
Let’s learn more about the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ universe and whether Charlie Hunnam will reprise his role as Jax again!
What is ‘Sons Of Anarchy’ about?
The American crime tragedy series follows the lives of a close-knit group of outlaws and their motorcycle club. The club operates in a fictional town named Charming, in California’s Central Valley. Jax (Jackson) Teller is the club’s Vice President and eventually goes on to become its President. His life changes when he discovers a manifesto written by his late father which makes him question everything.
There are some themes that make constant appearances throughout the seven seasons of ‘Sons of Anarchy’. Love, brotherhood, loyalty, betrayal, and redemption are consistently depicted and the series also explores vigilantism, government corruption, and racism.
The showrunners wanted to depict the series’ outlaw motorcycle club as an analogy for human transformation. David Labrava (Happy), Chuck Zito (Frankie Diamonds), Rusty Coones (Quinn), and Sonny Barger (The Pimp aka Lenny) make guest appearances. And guess what? They’re real-life former members of Oakland’s Hells Angels gang!
The ‘Sons of Anarchy’ prequel will see a young Jax Teller?
According to the creator, the prequel series will be supposedly titled ‘First 9’ and follow the events before Jax’s birth. It will focus on Jax’s father John Teller instead, who founded the motorcycle club in the 1960s. John Teller is the reason behind the club’s existence, who formed it after returning home from Vietnam.
The events in the series will most probably occur before Jax’s birth and discuss John’s longtime war with the Mayans. His life-altering manuscript is said to be an important aspect of the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ prequel. Viewers assume that ‘First 9’ will also bring an introduction to the club’s founding and foremost members.
It seems like the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ prequel will talk more about the events of the motorcycle club. There are no plans to include Jax’s birth in the prequel, so chances of seeing a young Jax are unlikely. It would be pretty incredible to see a young Jax Teller grow up though! Seeing his childhood influences and what made him the legendary character we’ve come to know would be pretty amazing.
Here’s what the creator has to say about the spin-off shows
Sutter has revealed his plans to work on ‘Sam Crow’, a sequel series which will focus on Jax’s son, Abel. It looks like Jax’s story will continue to live with the ‘First 9′ prequel and the sequel ‘Sam Crow’. He recently unveiled his vision for a complete four-part series in the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ universe! Maybe Charlie Hunnam might make a surprise appearance after all!
Sutter posted his thoughts on Twitter: “I had this revelation between ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and [follow-up show] ‘Mayans’, that the SoA mythology would be four shows. ‘Sons of Anarchy’, ‘Mayans M.C.’, ‘First Nine’, and ‘Sam Crow’”.
He continued, “First Nine would be a limited series. Nine episodes. It would end before we began to tread on the history we created in Sons. Sam Crow would be the fate of Wendi, Nero, Abel, and Thomas”.
In the meantime, ‘Mayans M.C.’ has been renewed for two more seasons. It will continue to address Jax’s actions in the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Season 7 finale. The impact it had on other motorcycle gangs will be a key factor in the new seasons.
“We’re going to play the reality of that last day and the events that happened with who he killed that day and the impact and perhaps the trickle down that may have had on Northern Cali”,
It doesn’t seem like the story of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ will come to an end anytime soon. With so many spin-off shows in the making, it’s a matter of time before the series graces our screens again!
