Five years after television’s favourite motorcycle gang rode off into the sunset, the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off prequel has been confirmed.
Throughout the course of ‘Sons of Anarchy’, fans have seen Charlie Hunnam play Jax Teller and navigate through his motorcycle gang of outlaws. The series is undeniably addictive, bloody, and brutal. The bad guys are the bag guys and every other character is just as deadly!

The show followed Jax Teller’s life as the member of a motorcycle gang, making his way through a brash world. He’s learning to be a new father while doing his best not to step in his late fathers’ shoes. The show focuses on his feuds, friendships, the meaning of brotherhood, and redemption.
Though the series ended five years ago, fans still miss the gang. But it may not be the end of the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ universe! There’s already been a spin-off series of the show that premiered in 2018, titled ‘Mayans M.C’.
And, after a very successful first season, creator Kurt Sutter has shared his plans for the SoA universe which includes a prequel and sequel series too! From what it looks like right now, it seems that he might be taking ‘The Big Bang Theory’ spin-off route and planning his own version of ‘Young Sheldon’.

How Sutter wants the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ universe to expand
There seems to be no stopping creator Sutter from planning the expansion of the SoA universe, evident by the several spin-off ideas he has shared on Twitter. The original ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off ‘Mayans M.C.’ is based two years after the events of its parent series. Sutter has referred to the series as the second chapter of the story he envisions.
Based on the titular Latino club of the same name, ‘Mayans M.C.’ features a post-Jax Teller world. The series addresses the ramifications of the finale and sees how Jax’s actions impacted gangs and Northern and Southern California.
The series has been successful enough to have been renewed for 2 more seasons. But there’s more – the success has prompted Sutter to envision a prequel and a sequel! According to Sutter, the prequel, titled ‘First 9′, is about exploring the events before Jax’s birth and emphasizes on his father John Teller.
The plans for the sequel includes doing the exact opposite by showing Jax’s son Abel return to reclaim his family’s throne. Both these narratives sound pretty interesting to us. Has Sutter any plans to start working on them yet?
TBBT & SoA: Spin-off vision similarity much?
We were surprised too! Sutter mentioned that his vision of the sequel follows Jax Teller’s son Abel’s life, will tell his story from the beginning. According to Sutter, it will allow the fans to see events that unfold after Jax’s death and through young Abel’s life.
But there’s something that we think the vision of both the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off series has in common. It looks like Sutter may have taken a leaf out of ‘The Big Bang Theory’s’ book and recreated his version of ‘Young Sheldon’. While we’re sure that even if the spin-off series materialize, they won’t be titled ‘Young Abel’ or ‘Young John’, maybe they’ll have more similarities.
If the show is really inspired by ‘Young Sheldon’, we might see less bloodshed and maybe a little less intensity. Considering how brutal ‘Sons of Anarchy’ was, it’s hard to imagine that its spin-offs will not follow suit.
Will Sutter’s vision of the spin-offs materialize anytime soon?
We’re sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the probability of a Sutter-approved spin-off releasing is very unlikely. Last year, Disney fired Sutter from the ‘Mayans M.C.’ production team over multiple complaints about his behaviour. His 18-year relationship with FX ended rather terribly, but he’s sure the series is in good hands.
Sutter shared his thoughts with “PopCulture.com“, hinting that the future of the series is still bright. He said, “I’m not sure what the fate of ‘Mayans M.C.’ holds. But if it continues, you’ll still be in good hands. As I said at the premiere, Elgin is ready to take on the challenge of running the show. I’m sure FX will get him the support he needs to find and follow his vision”.
He added, “For those of you who wanted me gone, you win! For those of you who didn’t, you win too. Although I will no longer be involved, I have no doubt the new team will move things forward with the same quality fans have come to expect”.
Sadly, Sutter is no longer part of the ‘Mayans M.C.’ production but his overall deal with them remains intact! Sutter has left so many hopes for the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off series and fans can’t wait to know more. We might get to see more of him in the coming years, but for now, the future is uncertain.
