After ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and ‘Mayans M.C.’, will Sutter revive its prequel series ‘First Nine’? Will Jax Teller be back from the dead?
Fans of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ have been eagerly waiting for the release of its prequels and sequels. Recently FX renewed ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off ‘Mayans M.C.’ for a third season. After the creator of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and ‘Mayans M.C.’ was fired by the network FX a year ago, co-creator Elgin James is ready to take charge of the third season of the spin-off. Sutter was fired due to issues reported from the cast and crew about his behaviour.

‘Mayans M.C.’ Season 3
‘Mayans M.C.’ is a spinoff of the FX Series ‘Sons of Anarchy’. It does not directly deal with the main characters of its original series. The cast and crew of ‘Mayans M.C.’ have already begun filming in Ventura County, California. Hence you can expect the new episodes to release around early or mid-2021.
“I feel obliged to tell fans that after I was let go, days before it aired, without my knowledge, the (studio and network) changed the ending of the S2 finale. Beyond the disrespect and WGA violation, the change is dishearteningly indicative of the new regime. They dumbed it down and made it safe.” However, Sutter did not reveal the changes the network made and later deleted the tweet.
Is there a prequel to ‘Sons of Anarchy’?
Kurt Sutter had earlier revealed his long plans of a series more connected to ‘Sons of Anarchy’. One of them included Jax’s sons, Abel and Thomas. When a fan questioned him about Abel’s future on ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off, he responded that he had this realization between ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and ‘Mayans M. C.’ that the SOA mythology would be four shows. It would include ‘Sons of Anarchy’, ‘Mayans M.C.’, ‘First Nine’, and ‘Sam Crow’. ‘First Nine’ would be a limited series with nine episodes, whereas ‘Sam Crow’ would attribute the fate of Wendi, Nero, Abel, and Thomas.
Sutter’s idea of launching a series featuring Jax’s sons and the other founding members of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ in the future has been disclosed long ago. However, considering his firing from the spin-off ‘Mayans M.C.’, the future of the ‘First Nine’ prequel is in great jeopardy. When asked, Sutter refused to discuss his current situation with Fox. Hence, he cannot comment on the reality of any of this happening.
Given the massive success ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and its spin-off ‘Mayans M.C.’ have achieved during their run, we can only hope that Sutter makes his way back with FX to explore these possible projects. Though this is only possible if Disney gives Sutter the intellectual property to ‘Sons of Anarchy’, as it is the only way he can pursue a sequel. It is also unclear if FX is planning any series around the crime drama television series.

Will Jax Teller be back on the spin-off of ‘Sons of Anarchy’?
In an interview to “PEOPLE”, Charlie Hunnam spoke about reprising his role as Jax Teller. He told them he would never, ever put that cut back on. He would never put his rings back on. Not even for Halloween as it was a very deep experience for him. He further added how he lived with that character inside him for years, in a very real way. In a way, it manifested in ways that he could have never even imagined. Also, Jax Teller is dead now. So, there would be no bringing him back ever.
Though Hunnam currently does not have any plans of reprising his role at the moment, if he changes his mind and chooses to come back in a ‘Sons of Anarchy’ spin-off, as Abel’s father on ‘Sam Crow’, then it will be possible in a flashbacks scene. Spin-off series ‘Mayans M.C.’ has incorporated numerous flashback scenes in both its seasons. Hence, just like fans of ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and Jax Teller, we are also not ready to completely shelve the prospect.
