F.P. Jones is bidding adieu to ‘Riverdale’
As the fourth season of the show came to a sensational end, leaving the viewers eagerly awaiting the next season, Ulrich announced his decision to leave the show.

At the end of season 3, his character F.P. Jones, who was the leader of the Southside Serpents gang, becomes the town sheriff. Season 4 focused on his role as the new sheriff who was trying to figure out the mystery behind the anonymous videotapes that the residents of Riverdale were strangely receiving, as well as on his relationship with Alice Cooper (Betty’s mother).
The 50-year-old actor had announced his decision to quit the popular show a while back, in February 2020, but had not given any reason behind this decision. In a press release, he had stated,
“I’m incredibly grateful for the friendships I’ve made on ‘Riverdale’, and I will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis … But I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on to explore other creative opportunities”,
As reported by TVLine, without delving into any details.
However, a few days back, during an Instagram live, Skeet finally broke his silence on the reason behind his departure from the show. He stated that he was leaving ‘Riverdale’ simply because he was “bored” now. “I’m leaving ‘Riverdale’ because I got bored creatively”, Ulrich said, “How’s that? That’s the most honest answer”.
Initially, his co-star, Marisol Nichols, who plays Hermoine Lodge, had also decided to leave. In a statement addressing the departure of both these stars, the show’s creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said,
“I’m grateful to Skeet and Marisol for their incredible work on the show these last four years, and we all wish them well on their future endeavours. FP and Hermione will never be far from our hearts. And, of course, they’re always welcome back in ‘Riverdale’”
hinting that there will always be a possibility of them returning.
However, Nichols has now decided to be back for the next season. She explained that after having a very long talk with Aguirre-Sacasa, she decided to return to Riverdale for its fifth season as Hermoine Lodge. She expressed her excitement regarding showing a new side to her in the upcoming season and her future ventures via her Instagram handle.
Season 5 of the series to turn a new leaf
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the highly anticipated season 5 of the show has been pushed back by the channel to January 2021, as of now. The showrunners have also increased the excitement amongst fans by announcing that the show will be seeing a time leap in the next season. The season will begin with the final days of the characters at CW Riverdale High and then move forward to their lives after college. This news has offered some respite to the fans who were heartbroken because of the news of the departure of Ulrich and Nichols.
Ulrich has also assured his fans that even though they will no longer be seeing him on ‘Riverdale’, he has other upcoming projects that he is excited to be a part of. The actor is a part of the American web series, ‘#FreeRayshawn’, a crime drama, also starring Lawrence Fishburne and Stephen James, that premiered on Quibi on April 6th, 2020. He will also be seen in Miguel Sapochnik’s science fiction movie ‘Bios’ starring Tom Hanks.
While the show makers have left doors of ‘Riverdale’ open for him to return, we still have to see if Ulrich will be willing to come back at any point later. Until then, fans can, of course, continue to follow him on other shows while ‘Riverdale’ continues to march ahead with its fifth season even without him or Nichols.
