Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a supernatural drama based on a movie of the same name from 1992. Created by Joss Whedon, the show debuted on WB on March 10, 1997. After running for five popular seasons on WB, a clash between the creators and the network led the show to shift on UPN. The show concluded with a season 7 on UPN on May 20, 2003.
As the show progressed, it became surprisingly popular for the relatively new network, WB.
The popularity of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and its mark on the pop-culture, is still firmly present. Thus, the makers are willing to bring a reboot.
Gellar to revive her career without Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Though Sarah Michelle Gellar was already known in the industry before landing the lead role of Buffy Summers, what she achieved with the show during its 7-season run was a popularity that still lives on. Gellar refusing to become a part of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot certainly doesn’t mean the end of her career, as being termed by few.

She had an immensely successful run for over a decade after the conclusion of the show and is still very much a part of every aspect of the industry with her acting jobs, producer credits, and a lot more. However, it might mean the loss of a great opportunity in the times when she’s not at the best of her acting career.
How it’s been for Gellar lately?
After the conclusion of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in 2003, Gellar stayed at the top of the industry with lead roles in various fan-favourite movies. During the show, Gellar starred in several immensely successful films like I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), Scream 2 (1997), Cruel Intentions (1999), Scooby-Doo (2002).

After the conclusion, her strike continued with Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004), The Grudge (2004), Southland Tales (2006). Suburban Girl (2007), TMNT (2007), and Veronika Decides to Die (2009).
In the current decade, Gellar has played parts in several projects like Star Wars Rebels, The Big Bang Theory, and others.
It’s been a while since Sarah had been a major part of something that could bring her back to the rails.
“Why would I want to see it redone?” – Gellar on the reboot.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is not only staying away from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but she doesn’t think a reboot is a great idea. Gellar played Buffy Summers, the latest in the legacy of vampire slayers in the story of the original show.
While discussing the reboot in an interview with Parade, Gellar expressed her disinterest in a reboot for the show.
She said,
“There’s a time and a place for everything and when something is done really, really well, you don’t have to reboot it, because it still holds up. And so, I think that’s what I struggle with a little bit. People discover Buffy today and love it just the same as if they discovered it 20 years ago. There are movies I watch, like Sixteen Candles, I love it just as much today as I did then. Why would I want to see it redone? So, I am probably in the minority on that.”
This clearly defines that the star has her reasons to not be the part of the reboot show being developed by Monica Owusu-Breen. However, fans would have loved to see her back as Buffy.
Do you believe that Gellar is right about the need for Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot?
