‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ reboot
After a gap of almost fifteen years, ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ is coming back on our screens. Though the revival is not exactly like the one that starred Sarah Michelle Gellar. In an interview with “Deadline” in 2018, series creator Joss Whedon spoke about working on a new TV version of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ with the original production company, Fox 21 TV Studios.
The new version of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ would be contemporary and build on the mythology of the original TV show. Sarah Michelle Gellar has starred in many series and films like the ‘Scooby-Doo‘ series, ‘All My Children‘, and ‘Swans Crossing‘. But she gained most popularity through her role as Buffy Summers on ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer‘. After the announcement of Joss Whedon and Monica Owusu-Breen’s ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ reboot series, fans were waiting for Gellar’s take on whether she will be reprising her role.
In an interview with “The Wrap“, Gellar finally talked about the possibility of returning as Buffy Summers. She said,
“I don’t know anything about it, honestly. I think that it’s a great story and I’m glad that it will get retold and hope that people will watch it. But, you know, I’ve told my story with it”.
Even though Gellar wishes to not revive her popular teenage role, she still has fond memories of playing Buffy Summers.
“For me, the beauty of the show was the madness and horrors of high school manifesting in actual literal horrors.”
While only a few details related to the Buffy reboot have been shared by Whedon, one thing he confirmed was that he won’t recast classic characters like Buffy, Willow, and Xander.

When will the reboot of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ premiere?
The news of the reboot of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ was announced in July 2018. Till now no more information regarding its premiere date has been revealed. No network is attached to the vampire series either. It is because Disney now owns 20th Century Fox and Hulu. There has been some speculation that ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ could go to either Hulu or Disney plus. The project is also being developed at the cable streaming division of 20th Century Fox, Fox 21 TV studios. It is also being speculated that ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ reboot could go to The CW because it is the successor to The WB, the network that first aired the popular 90’s series.
