Sarah Michelle Gellar, the girl who brought Buffy The Vampire Slayer into our hearts, is now the proud co-owner of Foodstirs, a successful organic home-baking business.
Since the show’s cancellation in 2003, Sarah made small appearances on and off the TV. But now, with the revival-reboot trend these days, will our dearest Buffy Summers revisit Summerdale for a possible reboot? American television series Buffy The Vampire Slayer was created by writer-director Joss Whedon. Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Fondly remembered
That spring of 1997, when Buffy The Vampire Slayer premiered, no one expected it to make such a deep impression, let alone become a pop culture icon.
TV critic Emily Nussbaum rightly declared 1999 as a “turning point” in television history. Not only did The Sopranos debut that year, but Buffy The Vampire Slayer reached a peak of success with its third season.

Nussbaum wrote in “The New Yorker”: “Every week, I watched The Sopranos and Buffy the Vampire Slayer; I was an avid fan of both, convinced that [Sopranos creator] David Chase and [Buffy creator] Joss Whedon were turning television into something radical and groundbreaking, the former by deconstructing the mob genre (as well as capitalism and psychotherapy), the latter by forging a mythic, feminist-inflected meld of horror, comedy, and teen drama.”
Given the ground-breaking success the show achieved, a reboot seems to be a clear possibility. But the question remains, will Sarah Michelle Gellar return as the female lead? Read on to find out.

Sarah Michelle Gellar on playing Buffy Summers
Sarah Michelle Gellar has been a working actress since the age of 4, but it was the lead role in Buffy The Vampire Slayer that made her a star overnight. Her character, Buffy, inspired an entire generation of young women to see their potential as forces of power and strength.
The show was a surprise hit and managed to run for seven seasons, from 1997 to 2003. With its dramatised portrayals of real adolescent struggles, Buffy struck a chord with millions of teenagers. As a strong, independent hero, Buffy became the feminist role model for the new generation. Its success also prompted two spin-offs — Angel and Buffy: The Animated Series.
But Sarah Michelle Gellar got tired sick of playing Buffy by the end of season 3. According to Alyson Hannigan, who played Buffy’s sidekick Willow in the series, Gellar was ready to move on. Speaking on Watch What Happens Live, Hannigan added, “Well, she had a big career going. It was a lot of work.”

Okay with BTVS reboot, but not playing Buffy, says Gellar
For fans hoping to see Sarah Michelle Gellar return as Buffy, let’s wet-blanket your dreams.
In an interview with The Wrap, the actress revealed that she is not involved in the reboot at all. She believes there’s nothing more to explore about her character in the Summerdale, and that her story has already been “told”.
“I think that it’s a great story and I’m glad that it will get retold and hope that people will watch it. But, you know, I’ve told my story with it,” Gellar said.
Dismissing rumours of her return, she laughingly added: “For me, the beauty of the show was the madness and horrors of high school manifesting in actual literal horrors. And I may look young, but I don’t look like I’m a kid“.

“There is only one Buffy. One Xander, one Willow, Giles, Cordelia, Oz, Tara, Kendra, Faith, Spike, Angel. They can’t be replaced. Joss Whedon’s brilliant and beautiful series can’t be replicated.” She added, “But here we are twenty years later, and the world seems a lot scarier. So maybe it could be time to meet a new slayer”.
