The athlete wants to base all future aspects of his life on trust and honesty
Ryan Russell disclosed many things in a personal note. To summarize, he revealed that he is ready to dive into truth and live a life surrounded by honesty. The 27-year-old made some revelations in a personal essay as reported by ESPN. He says,
“My truth is that I’m a talented football player, a damn good writer, a loving son, an overbearing brother, a caring friend, a loyal lover, and a bisexual man”
Ryan Russell kicked off his personal note by describing how he was never a stereotype kid, “Growing up, I always felt as though my existence slipped between the cracks of two worlds. I wasn’t flamboyant, tidy, or any other stereotypes kids are forced to construct their world around. I wasn’t straight, hyper-masculine or aggressive; I cried quite a bit, and, as a young black man, I didn’t fit the bill. I played football — so I put that in the straight column. I wrote poetry and romance stories — so I put that in the gay column.”
The 27-year-old athlete went on to talk about two of the goals that concern him currently. These include: return to the NFL and live his life openly.
The world and LGBTQ
Furthermore, Ryan Russell talked about how the world sees the LGBTQ community in his personal note, “Let that sink into your brain. Even though openly LGBTQ people are thriving in every area of public life — politics, entertainment, the top corporations in America. They are so invisible in pro sports that a gossip blogger isΒ doing a favorΒ for a bisexual football player by not disclosing that he happens to date men. Nobody should need a favor to live honestly. In nobody’s worlds should being careful mean not being yourself. The career you choose shouldn’t dictate the parts of yourself that you embrace.”
Later, Ryan Russell describes in his personal note that he was ashamed of his bisexuality until recently. He made the decision to embrace it. In fact, he lied through relationships not embracing an essential part of himself thinking that it would go away. But Ryan became a role model for many as he chose to come out. Additionally, he chose to be true to himself and his relationships.
