Duh! For all the fans desperately waiting for the entry of ‘Deadpool 3’ into MCU – the sad news is that Ryan Reynolds is simply not free enough to do that.
Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Deadpool 3’ is arriving in MCU – or is it not? There have been many debates and discussions around the entry of the Merc with a Mouth in the Disney owned Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Highlights —
- Is ‘Deadpool’ returning to be a part of MCU?
- R-rated ‘Deadpool 3’ is happening in MCU with Ryan Reynolds
- ‘Deadpool 3’ is happening, but there’s a catch
The whole scenario followed the Fox–Disney merger deal. Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in March 2019, and that means Disney now owns all the assets of Fox, including Marvel’s characters Deadpool, X-men, and others. This ended Deadpool’s journey in Fox’s X-Men universe, and posed a lot of questions in front of fans:
- Whether Marvel will bring back Deadpool or not?
- How will Disney execute the entry of Deadpool in MCU?
- Will Ryan Reynolds continues as Deadpool in MCU? and so on.
However, the latest news suggests that Ryan Reynolds is simply not free enough for ‘Deadpool 3’.
Is ‘Deadpool’ returning to be a part of MCU?
When ‘Deadpool’ hit the theatres in February 2016, it took all the superhero movie fans by surprise. The movie was one of its kind and still stands to that title. It became the highest-grossing R-rated comic-book superhero movie and the highest-grossing ‘X-men‘ movie with a total of $783.1 million worldwide.
The movie was flooded with critical appreciation as TheWrap‘s Alonso Duralde said ‘Deadpool’ “shouldn’t work, but it absolutely does“; Michael O’Sullivan of The Washington Post called it “voraciously self-aware comedy“; The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw called it “neurotic and needy—and very entertaining“. ‘Deadpool 2’ was received with similar acclaim if not more.
This proves why fans are so desperate for ‘Deadpool 3’. And their concerns regarding Marvel not bringing ‘Deadpool 3’, or Disney altering the movie’s R-rated standard, or Ryan Reynolds not leading MCU’s ‘Deadpool’, all seems reasonable.

However, Marvel and Disney seem to be aware of all of that, and thus they have decided to take care of it.
R-rated ‘Deadpool 3’ is happening in MCU with Ryan Reynolds
That’s true. While it was already confirmed that Marvel Studios is doing ‘Deadpool 3’, the boss Kevin Feige has now confirmed that ‘Deadpool’ will have the mouth in MCU he is known for.
During an interview for ‘WandaVision‘, Kevin Feige told Collider,
“It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now”.
Ryan Reynolds working on the script seems to promise the same flavour of ‘Deadpool’ in MCU. Keeping that aside, as comicbook.com reports, Disney’s Bob Iger had said that ‘Deadpool’ won’t be entirely the same as it was, it will be “Marvel Branded”.
He said:
“[Deadpool] clearly has been and will be Marvel branded. But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool. As long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine.”
‘Deadpool 3’ is happening, but there’s a catch
While it’s confirmed that ‘Deadpool’ will make his superhero entry in MCU and will bring similar fun, the sad news is that it’s not happening anytime soon.
Yes, the Marvel boss has confirmed that ‘Deadpool 3’ will not start filming anytime until next year. This means fans will not get to see ‘Deadpool 3’ at least till 2023.
Kevin said in the same interview:
“It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.”
Marvel is set to have a busy year with ‘WandaVision’ already streaming on Disney+; ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ set for March 19 release; ‘Black Widow’ waiting for a May 7 theatrical release; ‘Loki’ set for May on Disney+; ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ on July 9; and the list goes on with ‘What if…?’, ‘Ms. Marvel’, ‘Hawkeye’, ‘Eternals’, and ‘Spider-man 3’.
While we die waiting for MCU’s ‘Deadpool 3’, Ryan Reynolds is awaiting the release of ‘Free Guy’, which has now been pushed from a July 2020 release to December 2020, to an uncertain date now. Reynolds has several movies lined up into filming and production, including ‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’s’ probable sequel, ‘Red Notice’, ‘The Adam Project’, etcetera. Thus, there’s plenty of time before we can eventually expect ‘Deadpool 3’.
