Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life disappointed the fans of the show, only with the treatment meted out to the characters of Rory Gilmore and Lane Kim. Lane isn’t a key character, but fans have rooted for her from the moment she was introduced to the show. And now, as the creators have ruined their storylines in the first season, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life season 2 might bring in some suspense and thrill to correct it.
- Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life – The Rory and Lane tragedy.
- Season 2 to be a suspense thriller.
- When can we expect season 2 for A Year in the Life?
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was a sequel to revive the popular TV show Gilmore Girls. The miniseries premiered on November 25, 2016, on Netflix, after almost a decade of the original Gilmore Girls show’s conclusion in 2007. As the character returned to revive their storylines from where they left it in the seventh season of the original show, fans were disappointed by how a few characters turned out towards the finale.
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life – The Rory and Lane tragedy
While the Rory we followed as an ambitious girl in the original show ended up being single and pregnant, Lane, whose storyline was already ruined in season 7 of the original show, received no attention by creator Amy Sherman-Palladino in the revival.
Fans think Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life ruined the characters of Rory and Lane. Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) was struggling to find her own existence for the better part of the mini-series. She was also having an affair with her ex, Logan (Matt Czuchry), while being in a relationship with Paul. Logan was also engaged. Thus, both were cheating on their partners. By the end of the series, Rory reveals to Lorelai (Lauren Graham) that she’s pregnant.
Before season 7 of the original show, we rooted for the Lane Kim (Keiko Agena) who was rebellious, fought for her dreams, and had ambitions to peruse a career in music. Suddenly, with no reason whatsoever, she married Zack and ended up pregnant. Fans hoped that the revival would put things at a better place for her. Unfortunately, she was at the same place throughout the season, raising her twins.
Which Character From Gilmore Girls Are You Most Like? (Quiz)
Season 2 could be a suspense thriller
When Alexis Bledel was asked about the same during Deadline’s Emmy Contender Panel, she said: “It certainly wasn’t the ending I was expecting”. She further stated, “After all her hard work, I wanted to see her succeed and be thriving.”
Adding to the same, Lauren said, “… and that’s not an ending, that’s a cliffhanger!”
As per a theory, the second revival for Gilmore Girls might create further suspense around Rory and Lane Kim. Who is the father of Rory’s unborn baby? Why did Lane sacrifice her dreams? The show might explore these questions while revealing some other secrets.
Some fans on Reddit asked for justice for Lane Kim’s character and even suggested a storyline that could explore the mystery around her. A Reddit user, who asked for “Justice for Lane Kim!” in a thread, suggested the storyline for her character in the second revival.
The fan wrote, “Does anyone else think that Lane’s relationship with sexuality is super tragic? I just feel so sad whenever I watch the episode where she comes back from her honeymoon and tells Rory she can drop the act and stop pretending sex is good.”
When can we expect a season 2?
Netflix hasn’t confirmed a second revival for Gilmore Girls yet, but fans want to see Rory and Lane Kim ending in a high. Thus, with increasing demand, Netflix may bring a Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life season 2. Some reports earlier this year even suggested that Netflix is working on the project.
Even if not an entire series, a Christmas special to repent for and repair past mistakes might also work. What do you think?
