Robert Pattinson was announced as the new Batman in the DCEU back in 2019. Since then, all kinds of rumours cropped up about Robert and director Matt Reeves not talking to each other. Then, the rumours popped about Robert leaving Batman. How true is it?
To play Batman/Bruce Wayne on-screen happens to be the dream of a majority of actors in Hollywood and beyond. So, whenever an actor is finalized for the iconic role, there are many speculations that arise. This time around, it was no exception. Ever since Robert Pattinson began shooting for the film, there are all sorts of rumours hovering around. One such rumour was that Robert and director Matt Reeves were not on the best of terms during the entirety of the shoot. But is there any substance to these rumours, or has anything been confirmed as of yet? If yes, then does it mean that Robert is leaving the franchise because of that?
Highlights —
- Robert Pattinson done with the Batman
- Robert Pattinson moves on from ‘The Batman’
This would be an unlikely scenario if that ever happens. Considering the fact that Ben Affleck is almost ousted from the DCEU, Robert remains the biggest star in the franchise. Of course, Dwayne Johnson is coming into the DCEU as Black Adam, but the popularity of the character isn’t at all comparable to Batman, arguably the most popular superhero of all time. So, is Robert Pattinson really leaving Batman due to his disagreements with Matt’s creative process? The answer is a big NO!

Robert Pattinson done with the Batman
There are no such reports, at least as of now. It is true that there were multiple sources claiming that Matt and Robert weren’t seeing eye to eye with each other on the sets. Apparently, Robert had some creative inputs about a few things, but Matt didn’t agree with them, which led to them not talking to each other for days, as it was reported. However, these claims also seem dubious as both Matt and Robert are known to be thorough film professionals. They wouldn’t risk harming the film’s shoot because of a minor dispute between them.
Robert Pattinson moves on from ‘The Batman’
There were also reports that Robert was not very pleased with the way things were moving along concerning the shoot. The shooting kept getting delayed due to the pandemic. It can be attributed to the film’s bad luck as the work on the film began around mid-2020 when the pandemic was at its very worst. Hence the shooting kept getting halted, which did not sit well with Robert. But there was also no concrete report on whether it was true that Robert was ever pondering upon the idea of leaving the film because of the delays.
The ultimate truth remains what was reported in 2019 by Deadline, that Robert was signed on for a trilogy of Batman films. The first film in the trilogy releases in 2022 and is highly awaited by the fans. Director Matt Reeves is best known for his critically and commercially acclaimed ‘Planet of the Apes’ series. Hence the hopes of the fans are up with the director this time. If ‘The Batman’ performs well, there is also a possibility that Matt can be hired to revive the DCEU, which was left behind by Zack Snyder. DC showed Zack the backdoor owing to him boldly putting his own creativity into the superhero universe. Let’s hope they don’t do the same to Matt.
‘The Batman’ is slated to release in March 2022 in theatres worldwide. Let’s hope that the film does well, and we have, even if slight, hope of seeing the DCEU becoming alive yet again.
