Is there going to be a season 11?
AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ has been on screen for over ten years and the series has been through some ups and downs.
TWD’s long-run has resulted in some degree of attachment to the show. People used to turn on their TVs just to dive into the world of TWD.
This attachment and love for the show is why fans don’t seem to be taking this news all too well. The hashtag #TheWalkingDead had been trending on Twitter for a few days and people were sharing their memories of the time spent with the show.
Luckily, the show isn’t set to leave just yet. AMC has confirmed season 11 which is set to have around 24 episodes. Given the current situation, these are supposed to stretch all the way to 2022.
This basically means that we still have a lot of time to spend with the show and, after that, we’ll have the Andrew Lincoln movie and the spin-off!
Is Rick Grimes set to return for season 11?
Andrew Lincoln, who played Rick Grimes, is set to star in ‘The Walking Dead’ movie that will release after the series comes to an end. But, the question is, could he actually make a return?
Fans know that his partner at the time of his exit, Michonne, had his child RJ, who is still with the Alexandrians. Rick doesn’t know he has a son but could find out if he returned to see whether the survivors were still at Alexandria. Would there finally be a happy ending for the trio?
Norman, who plays Daryl, took to Instagram after the news of the cancellation and uploaded a picture of himself and Andrew Lincoln holding hands, along with Carol in between them. Is this behind the scenes shot a sign or a hint that this might be the point where the series closes off? Fans were seen going crazy with conspiracy theories in the comment section.
“Please tell me that we are going to get to see these 3 all together on our screens at least once more in the walking dead”, commented one of them. Will these wishes come true? Well, we do truly hope so!
In fact, Andrew Lincoln himself seems to be getting emotional. There was a live ‘The Walking Dead’ cast reunion and fundraiser for the Georgia Senate Victory Fund on Sunday, and Andrew Lincoln was seen saying,
“I wish I had never left, it was a terrible decision!”
So, there’s a good chance that he might be rushing back for the last season!
Does Rick’s exit have anything to do with the show’s cancellation?
The show has been cancelled recently. The producers and directors of the show have declared that season 11 is set to be the last season addition to the long run of TWD.
Many fans of the show have confessed to their love for Rick colliding with their loyalty for the show, right after he left the show in the 9th season.
This was evident in the numbers as the viewership of the show fell considerably after the same. The show that once had the highest numbers of viewers in history seemed to be having monetary issues.
So, while cast, producer, and licensing fees have increased, as happens when a show gets older, the ratings of the show, along with the profits, seem to be falling.
There is a good possibility that Andrew Lincoln’s exit from the show was one of the reasons which contributed to the cancellation of the same. But, then again, there were various other factors that caused it, including the monotonous feels of the show.
