The fifth annual red nose day was celebrated on Thursday. This day is a fundraising effort to help put an end to child poverty.
While the practice was in place in the UK since 1988, it was only in 2015 that it came to the US. The campaign claims that it has raised around $150 million since its start!
This is how it works –
American Companies, Walgreens and Duane Reade, sell red noses for $2 each. One has a choice to buy a plain nose or ones with cute faces printed on them. Out of the $2, 1.30 is donated to the fund. It is a not-for-profit arrangement.
Ever since 2015, Walgreens has managed to sell over 40 million noses.
