London Fashion Week was supposed to start with a glamourous bang. And it started with a bang alright.
The opening of London Fashion Week was all red thanks to climate activists. While London Fashion Week is widely known to raise temperatures all around the world. Protests chose it to raise their voices against the changing climate. So, a group of these climate activists has (literally) glued themselves at the entrance of London Fashion Week 2019.
With fake blood all over, activists are urging action on climate change
As the fashion world was gearing up for London Fashion Week’s official opening, one group was prepping for the whole event to get canceled.
Rebelling for Climate Change
But this protest was not a sudden thing. This summer environmental activists of Extinction Rebellion group announced their concerns to the British Fashion Council. The climate activists urged to scrap London Fashion Week. Why? Because the move would favour a summit that talks about the climate crisis and will have industry professionals in attendance.
As per a report by Independent, “Given the ecological consequences of fast fashion and the impact London Fashion Week has on consumption, the organisation says a boycott is the only way forward to help save our planet.”
Killing the Planet
Pictures of climate activists lying on the ground in pools of fake blood at the London Fashion Week have gone viral. Moreover, a video from the same features an activist reading a poem.
“The fashion industry is killing our planet,” the climate activist begins. âEvery year, every month, every week, you abuse this Earth. You produce clothes for profit and pleasure, not for need.”
Furthermore, the climate activist at London Fashion Week continues, âYou choose profit over planet, profit over people, profit over our future. The fashion industry tugs at our heartstrings, it begs us to come into shops, feel its fabrics, don beautiful dresses, trendy tops, seasonâs hottest handbags.â
